When I was young he just got on my nerves, but now I think he's cool for how crazy he acts. He's usually smiling so that's nice :D

I can't speak for anyone else's tastes though!!

3. He never makes people feel like they aren't good enough.
The world if full of people who make us feel like we aren't good enough for them. Richard doesn't do that. His fans feel like he accepts them for what they are, and that he is sincere in his desire to help them improve their health. FWIW, I think they are right about him.

That being said, he's Chris Tucker & Jar-Jar Binks all rolled into one. But I can see his appeal.

7. He is so wonderfully supportive to people with weight problems.
I give him all the credit in the world for the good work he has done in helping others. Can't say enough good things about this man, it makes up for any craziness about him.

:applause:

13. +1000
My Mom has had a weight problem for most of her life - sometimes winning the battle and sometimes losing. For a while, she was a Weight-Watchers lecturer, and I got dragged along for the meetings.

The men and women who struggle the most with weight issues, and it was mostly women, have terrible problems with self-esteem. They feel like society thinks they are worthless, and when I look at the images portrayed in the media, I can see what they mean. Richard was a supportive non-judgmental voice in a sea of rail-thin exercise bunnies telling them to just get off their fat asses and slim down already. No wonder so many of them love him.

14. I've seen him talking to a 1000lb person who could hardly move
and he knew the right things to say to make that person have enough hope and self esteem to believe that they could take the first step on a very long journey. Sometimes that is just clapping their hands together. A lot of doctors don't know how to get someone to do that. He has a real gift for empowering people.

And you're right, it is that non-judgmental voice. So he is the last person in the world who anyone else should judge.

I don't think that there is an insincere bone in his body, he isn't faking it.

20. Richard Simmons was one of the first people to appeal to non-athletic people
He was obese when he was young and got into fitness to get in shape. When he started, most gyms were places only for the already fit and athletic. Few went after normal people or overweight people. Simmons has always tried to teach practical weight control through exercise and sensible eating.

Over the years he has almost become a parody of himself, but he is always upbeat and I have never seen him be judgmental.
