As a young teenager, I had a friend (who I'll call Rose) who I met at camp and quickly became almost inseparable with. Then, about two years ago, she started changing; she became unreliable, and then she acted like she didn't want to spend time with me or anyone else. After she bailed on me for the last time, we lost contact. I had no idea where she went after that; she never even went on facebook anymore, and not having heard anything from her, I actually began to wonder if she was alive or dead. Neither of my friends heard anything from her either. I went on with my life; started university, and made a new circle of friends, but I never forgot about her.
Today, she contacted me for the first time in almost two years. As it turns out, she developed a really serious drug addiction and ended up in a treatment centre in Utah for a year. She apologized for ditching me two years ago, and told me how the drugs completely changed her personality and she pretty much lost all her friends. I did post on facebook a few months ago asking if anyone knew where she was. That's why she said I was one of the first people she messaged once she got internet access again, as she figured almost all of her other friends had forgotten about her.
She graduates from treatment tomorrow, and she's coming back home on Sunday. I'm unbelieveably proud of her, and I can't wait to start fresh with her soon.
