Anybody else hate using insect repellent sprays?
It's that time of the year again. I came up with an idea the other day.

I don't like the way most insect repellent sprays feel on my skin. It also seems like much of the spray doesn't make it to the intended target area and the overspray can actually damage some surfaces that it lands on. The repellents in the towelettes are convenient to use, but they are much more expensive.

I have come up with an alternative that has been working for me. Spray a small amount of your favorite repellent on a baby wipe and use that to distribute it onto your skin. It cuts the greasy feel, you get more even coverage, you can use it on your neck and face area and you use less repellent overall. I haven't tried it yet on the grandkids, but I'll bet it would make it a lot easier to keep them protected, also.

1. Have you ever tried pennyroyal?
I started growing it about 20 years ago to keep ants from creating nests in my garden. They HATE the stuff. A plant here, a plant there, just enough to piss them off. It is invasive, but that's fine since it is easy to uproot. We just pick a stalk, rub it in our hands to bruise the leaves, and run it over our arms and faces. Skeeters and black flies hate the stuff too. I'm not sure why. I think it has a pleasant smell and it works well in tea.

2. No, I've never tried it. It should be easy enough to grow some in a pot
on the porch. I'll have to look for some.

3. Use a window box. It spreads.

4. I have heard the new Off Clip On works well
but I haven't tried it myself.

:hi:
