Loungers: Let's have a little fun.
Post a pic of a car of the model year you were born. Here's mine, a 1958 Cadillac:

1. There weren't any cars the year I was born.
Unless you want to consider a 1939 Ford a car.

4. They most certainly were.
AND they were responsible for the birth of NASCAR - they dominated the track for years.

8. Yep.
Moonshiners started racing their cars on weekends. Soon entrepeneurs started staging races and charging admission, and NASCAR was born. :)

6. 1963 Ford Galaxie 500:

I own a '68 that my grandfather bought new. She's the fastback:

The one in the picture isn't mine, but it is just like it, color and all (mine has a dark red interior - can't tell about this one). The rear window is about 45' long (seems that way) and the biggest problem I've had with her is breaking motor mounts. I have them replaced with the cop parts, but I still break them. She's in storage at the moment and I don't drive like a maniac anymore. The owners manual says not to do more than 70mph in 1st gear, but I've shifted into second at 75+ off the line many times. Curiously, there's been a correlation between those incidents and the broken motor mounts.

On Edit:

1) Yes, she's a 3-speed automatic and you can STILL do 70+ in 1st gear AND manually shift it.
2) 150K miles
3) Yes, she needs work
4) (CENSORED) (CENSORED) (CENSORED) (CENSORED) and I ALSO did (CENSORED) (CENSORED) (CENSORED) in her.
5) 390 2bbl and fast as hell
6) I can stretch out in both the back seat and the trunk - wide car.
7) When working on the engine, I would sit on the radiator with my legs straddling the engine.
8) About 18mpg - not bad for a car with an engine like that.
9) Stock - I've even got the original wheel covers like the ones in the picture, as well as a set of hub-only caps (simple chrome with the Ford logo).
10) The transmission choked at 70mph on an uphill and I STILL drove it home more than 70 miles. That's the main reason she's in storage.

We actually moved to California in one of these in 1960 - same two-tone color scheme too, except ours was 'Aztec Gold' (brown) and white. Ours had the external sun visor also.

With the exception of staff cars, in my opinion all military vehicles have their shock absorbers removed before they're assigned to the motor pool. A ride in that cutie would jar your kidneys loose from their moorings.

By our birth year just about all auto factory production had switched to military vehicles from jeeps to tanks.

this is the same kind of car (even the yucky dark gold color) my parents brought me home from the hospital in. it was actually a '73, but to me they look identical. there's a pic of it somewhere in the family mementos parked in the driveway with the family cat sitting on the roof.

i don't know anything about cars, but i seem to recall that back then they were nothing special.

42. I'll see your 58 and raise you a 51 Lincoln

I remember the back seat was GIGANTIC. There were no seat belts back then. We just rattled around. I used to like to lay on the package shelf in the back window. I'm not sure but I seem to remember the seat went down into the trunk or something akin to that. We had it long enough that I remember having a picnic back there with a friend. Traded it in for a '55 Nomad. They were all the rage.

45. 1976 Mercury Couger

My parents later in life had a '78 Cougar. My dad wrecked it trying to tow a 1982 Lincoln to our new house. This was in 1990, IIRC. The guy manning the Lincoln fucked up somehow and jackknifed both cars on the highway.

Or something like that... we had just moved into a new house so when we got new cars too it just seemed natural!

Well, not new new... new used.
