OK, Seattle DUers! Tell me where I should go eat!
I'm not much for seafood, but I will eat it, and I don't want to spend too much money. I'm also trying to eat healthier, but a nice greasy burger two or three times during my eight day stay won't be too bad.

5. There's a fish & chips place up by Green Lake.
I moved away many years ago, so I don't know if it's still there. Good fish & chips, though.

19. "Spuds"
and it's still there, but apparently our OP doesn't care for seafood, so maybe not the best choice.

7. Kidd Valley has great burgers and shakes.

Google to get locations.

Varsity Inn (http://www.yelp.com/biz/varsity-inn-restaurant-seattle-2) for dinner. It's not advertised very much but they have the best dinners EVER! Several of the cooks are from Mexico and they cook things they used to eat. It's not like any Mexican food you've ever had before! My friend had melt-in-your mouth pork and I had fork-tender flank steak. They also grill great big green onions that are yummy!

Don't go there on the 4th because you won't be able to get near it.

I'll let you know if I think of anyplace else.

8. The local burger chain
is Dicks. One downtown and one by the U. Depends on where you stay. Typical burger/fries place but locals swear by it 'cause it's local. In the interest of full disclosure however (this is DU :)) the owners are definately Conservatives.

12. They are?
I've lived just down the street from the one on 45th for over 40 years and I've never heard that. I know they have good starting pay and I thought, benefits. I had no idea "Dick" was a conservative!

14. The current owners
whose names escape me, are big supporters of charter schools and spent a lot of money trying to get them approved. I wish I had a link but nothing comes to mind at the moment..........

on a nice day, you can sit out on the deck and watch the boats on Lake Union.

Last year I spent half an hour driving around the lake trying to find it. I thought it was a myth!

Just drive down to the Northlake area and follow the trail of seagull poop until you see totem poles.

21. Heh, that area is notoriously hard to navigate for some reason.
But if you follow Pacific from the south end of the University, or take Northlake Way from Gasworks, it's almost underneath the I-5 bridge.

13. If for some reason you're in West Seattle,
there's a few good places on California Ave. There's a great Mexican place called Puerto Vallarta and a really good Indian place up the same block (sorry can't remember the name). For kind of fancy steaks and stuff, I'd go to the Met. And I'd second Ivars for fish and chips.

15. If you really want a suburb burger go to the burbs
Edited on Mon Jun-27-11 12:04 PM by The empressof all
Teddy's Bigger Burger in Woodinville is really really good. They are a chain out of Hawaii but their only location mainland is here in WA. They also have a joint in Japan.

Burgers are thick and juicy..They don't over cook their patties. Onion Rings are among the best I've ever had. Their fries are only so so ...I usually just go with the onion rings. Shakes are made with real ice cream and are thick and frosty

http://teddysbiggerburgers.com/

One of the best burger experiences I've ever had.

For Asian go to Szechuan Chef in Bellevue

http://seattle.citysearch.com/profile/41941626/bellevue_wa/szechuan_chef.html

We always get the hand shaved noodles but if you go with the hot pot make sure you get the mixed broth...The hot and spicy is OTT IMO and I like spicy.

In Seattle

Go to Poppy. It's owned by the same guy who owns the Herb Farm. Poppy is far more reasonably priced and a nice reflection of what you could be getting at the Herb Farm. I've had luck with getting reservations but I've heard it's not always easy.

For Lunch go to Paseo in Fremont

Best sandwich you will have in your life....No Joke...Get the Cuban or the Pork--But the veggie options are good too.

18. Burgermaster
There's a Burgermaster on Queen Anne and in Bellevue. We've been going there since we were both kids. Plus, the Bellevue location is a drive-in, and when's the last time you went to a drive-in for lunch or dinner?

Burgermaster features grass-fed, hormone-free beef, handmade shakes, and it's so good, you'll be back the next day for more. ;-)

If you really want to spend some bucks, try Tom Douglas' multiple restaurant empire.

Dahlia Lounge
Palace Kitchen
Etta's
Serious Pie

http://tomdouglas.com/

If you're not flush in the bucks and love sweets, I recommend the Dahlia Lounge Bakery, which is right next door to the restaurant. It's possible to buy breakfast and lunch items at the bakery, too, but going to the bakery is a special treat at our house.

Have a great time in my hometown, and remember - only tourists carry umbrellas!
