I REALLY need an answer to this computer question please!
I use Mozilla, and regularly clean out the cookies.

I have a cookie coming back, no matter what site I go to, a cookie is set for:

surfingtheapocalypse.net (and .com)

Mozilla allows me to not allow cookies to be resubmitted later, and I have done this for a thousand sites, but this one keeps coming back anyway.

I ran adaware, spybot, spywareblaster and the usual antivirus software.

I have looked through my entire registry and cannot find anything that points to this cookie leaving bastard.

Help - what the hell is it and how the hell can I get rid of it?

oh - I have windows xp and did a system restore that DIDN'T work.

Thanks for any ideas!

1. It's a pest
download adaware or pest control and you should get rid of it..

3. make sure adaware definitions are up to date
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ then go to the download page for the new reference file. Save it where it's supposed to go, then run adaware again.

6. Thanks for the input
I did need to update, and it found 1 thing, but it wasn't the monster I'm looking for.

damn. When I saw it had found something in the registry, I was almost jumping up and down.

The monster is still popping up in the cookies.

Thanks again, though, for the reminder!

7. Put yourself behind a proxy (eg guidescope)
Edited on Sat Apr-03-04 09:53 PM by patriotvoice
Reroute zilla through guidescope, jack up the logging on guidescope, and trace whether the cookie is internally generated (pest) or externally (hijack).

http://www.guidescope.com

(PS on XP you will need to create and configure the guidescope prefs file by hand; docs are on the site)

On edit:
Then try Pest Patrol, if adaware isn't catching it.

8. Just to let you know there was a happy ending
I didn't want to download firefox until it hits 1.something, so downloaded mozilla 1.6 (had been using 1.3).

No more bastard cookie.

Thanks everyone for your input!
