What has happened to the price of Ruffles?

A nine ounce bag of Ruffles is $4.29!

That's two potatoes, probably. Two potatoes cost no more than fifty cents at most. Add another fifty cents for oil, processing, marketing. The cost to the manufacturer can't be more than a buck.

So there's a profit of more than $3.00 on a bag!!

A 300 percent profit.

Something's very wrong with this.

2. not the point
I don't buy potato chips. I just happened to notice that enormous price for a product that is cheap to produce. Price gouging.

3. On the other hand, you're mostly buying air anyway - regardless of the brand.
By volume, you're buying air with a little bit of other shit in the bag.

5. The worst offender is cereal, if you're on that warpath.

8. Yeah, they've gotten ridiculous again.
I wait for B1G1 and use coupons, or I get it at Aldi's. Or, I find other things to eat for breakfast.

6. it's BS
never buy chips at full price, they will be on sale 2 for 1 or half off next Wednesday OR the price will be at least a buck lower then.

I never buy name brand chips (rarely buy any but store brand tortilla chips, anyway) but I was shocked the first time I saw an insane price on potato chips too, so I started watching...something is always much lower on that rack.

7. It's not just Ruffles...
Ice cream is running around $6 for a quart and a half carton. The "gourmet" brands, like Ben and Jerry's and Hagen Daaz are five bucks a pint. They can shove it. Time to break out the ice cream maker. I can make a half gallon of a good sorbet for a fraction of what they're charging, and without all they artificial shit the put in ice creams.
