Favorite cheap mass produced American beer?
I gotta go with Coors with Budweiser being a close second. I guess I'm not much of a beer aficionado haha

1. In a pinch, out of the Big Three I'd have to go with Miller Genuine
Draft, but it's still yuckadoodles. I grew up not too far from the Mexican border where Carta Blanca six packs were cheaper than Coca-Cola ones, and the "Lone Star of Mexico" puts all mass-produced American beers to shame. Now I'm in Cleveland, and Labatt's is almost universally available AND affordable, so that's my most common.

Full disclosure: right now I have a Stella Artois in front of me, so I can't help you much. I think Coors, Bud, and Miller should be avoided if at all possible, in that order.

That's as mass produced as I get. Guinness works too, but it's not American.

17. Yeah, but it isn't cheap.
At least not where I live. It costs at least as much as any of the imports and microbrews.

Regular Old Millwater sucks moose cock, but the NA is actually about the best out there - and cheap.

7. I love that for breakfast. I can drink it all day and feel fine in the morning
er I mean the next afternoon.

Plus it contains a natural antihistimine. I dont know if it is the hops or the barley, but it helps my ragweed allergy. Other people have noted this too.

6. It's not American, but I love Molson. It's our cheap everyday table beer.
I also am a sucker for Sam Adams' Winter Ale. If I can't get those, it's Leinie's or Summit.

18. That and Old Style
I can't get Old Style here, so Yuengling it is. Yuengling Light to be specific. Trying to keep my ass from expanding faster than it already is, and this is as "good" as any light beer--not that there is any such thing as a good light beer. But, after 10 hours a day working outside in the South Carolina heat and humidity, a light beer actually hits the spot.

Edited on Sun Jul-17-11 02:07 AM by provis99
Because they abandoned the mass-market slop recipe that dominated in the 1960s-1990s, phoned up some old Schlitz brewers, and reconstructed the recipe they used in the old days.

And sorry, Budweiser ain't American. It's Belgian.

I know it's weird. I like higher end whiskeys, rums, tequilas, etc., but for some reason, cheap, American, straw-colored beer is the taste I prefer.

22. Does Sierra Nevada Pale Ale count?
Well you can get it in UK supermarkets!

Quite a few places round where I am sell Brooklyn Lager as well.

23. I had no idea Sierra Nevada exported to the UK
Hell, I didn't think it made it any further than the West Coast of the US.

I think they're still considered a "micro brewery" even though they're probably one of the larger ones, with 5 year-round products, 4 seasonals, and several "limited edition" brews. All good stuff too

24. I was amazed to find out that people on the East Coast don't get it
As Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is available in a number of UK supermarkets. Heck even my local pub stocks a range of their beers.

There's a number of "craft" breweries whose beers are becoming increasingly available in the UK. Odell, Flying Dog, Goose Island, Brooklyn and the like. Although sadly Dogfishhead have stopped exporting over here. :-(

25. Yeah, we get. all the Sierra Nevada beers here on the East Coast.
I used to buy it in the old days, but newer and better micro-breweries offer better beers.

My town has a Dogfishhead brew pub. There are only two. The other is near their brewery in Delaware.

I like Flying Dog myself.

29. Where to start?
Edited on Mon Jul-18-11 12:20 AM by T_i_B
Loads of great British beer out there. But most good British beer is cask conditioned real ale, and that doesn't travel very well. It usually works out cheaper then keg beer in UK pubs but I doubt it will be quite such good value after it's been exported.

I'd suggest Thornbridge (Kipling & Japipur) and Brewdog (Punk IPA & 5am Saint) as 2 good British breweries to start off with, although I would not be suprised if both those breweries wares are quite pricey.

32. A few:
Samuel Smith's Pure Brewed Lager (not usually a fan of lagers, but this one is not bad at all)
Young's Double Chocolate Stout (stout tastes a bit of chocolate anyway, from the malt, but they add real chocolate during the brewing)
Mackeson's Triple Stout
Theakston's Old Peculier

28. I guess Coors.
In the old days, when there were actually more than 3 or 4, I liked Schiltz; however, now that I'm much older, I pretty much realize that what my father always said, is pretty much true, i.e. that they all taste the same. (I always thought that he just said that so he could by whatever was on sale, being a child of the depression).

But only Miller because that's what more neighbors drink than anything else. When I bought Coors for New Years, the last one was gone as of 2 weeks ago.

If it was Miller, it would have all been gone that night.

I don't want cheap beer clogging my fridge for that long...
