1. white corn
I don't think that we could find bi color corn here. Only white and yellow.

3. Organic corn from natural seed
I cannot eat the Monsanto crap, or anything made from it, without seriously ugly allergic results.

4. When I was young, it was "Field Corn" and "Sweet Corn".
The field corn was huge hearty yellow ears of corn as long as the dinner plate was wide. The white corn was smaller, and extremely sweet compared to field corn.

We used to get it from roadside vendors all over the midwest.

Field Corn is by far my favorite.

8. I Tried To Cook
field corn once. I got it at a produce stand in the sounth. It was being sold to tourists as sweet corn, but this tourist knew the difference. Being from the North, I had never seen even the suggestion that field corn was meant for human consumption, so I decided to try it as an experiment. I cooked it as sweet corn - not done. Cooked it some more - not done. Cooked it for an hour and some - not done. Tossed it. Figured it must be heat proof.

9. I have toasted it in the fire - if you don't burn it, it can be pretty good
lightly toasted. never tried baking it, but I bet that would work.

as to the question, i'll go bi color since that is what most the sweet corn around here is anymore.

24. Perhaps this is a regional difference ...
... but isn't "field corn" the stuff you make cornmeal from? It's still meant for human consumption, just not for eating "fresh".

26. If by field corn you mean cow corn, we used to eat it raw when we were kids.
You had to pick the young ears though, the older ears were tough.

It wasn't as sweet as sweet corn, but it wasn't bad.

19. Absolutely
We used to soak it in the lake for a while and roast it in a beach fire while we were night fishing. That probably had something to do with the taste.

5. I think I've only had yellow and bi; never plain white.
It all tastes pretty good now. When I was a kid, it had no flavor. In that respect, corn has trended in the opposite direction of most fruits and vegetables, which seem to have had all the flavor bred out of them. (Tomatoes and strawberries come especially to mind). I guess this makes sense since humans pretty much are responsible for corn, such as it is, in the first place.

7. Eastern shore (MD) Silver Queen is really the best - you can eat it raw.
There are other decent sweet corn varieties, but nothing compares to that - and you can tell if it was grown on the Eastern shore. There's just something about the soil and air that makes it unique.

15. Here in NE, Silver Queen shows up for a few weeks.
It is my favorite. I find the yellow corn with big kernels to be tougher than the other varieties. I prefer corn with small kernels, it seems to be sweeter.
Maybe I cook the yellow ears too long.

22. silver queen.
88 days. Bright white kernels with succulent flavor that holds well.
Sturdy 8-ft. stalks produce 8- to 9-in. ears with 14-16 full, flavorful rows of juicy kernels.
Disease resistant; tolerant of most leaf blights.

break off the stalk, strip most of the husks and in she goes. Delish.

Love it

But shouldn't it be 'corn' and canned corn 'corn off the cob'?
