The driveway at our school flooded with a foot of water and I distinctly remember walking around in that to show off by belle-bottoms with the bottom 8 inches totally wet. I also had those striped socks with the "fingers" for all the toes that were so uncomfortable. One year we all wore head scarves. Oh and rubber boots. It was considered cool one year in high school to wear thick socks and rubber boots in the snow (in Ottawa). Boy they were cold. But anything for fashion eh? Now I walk around with an hat with ear flaps down in winter and care not a wink how I look.

popular "scottie dog" argyle sweaters, only this one had fucking UNICORNS) -- it was green with white unicorns and red hearts -- and I wore neon pink nylon socks with it.

I won't tell you how old I was, but let's just say I was old enough to know better.

It was 1983! What could I do?

It got better; it really did.

ETA: Not argyle sweaters, but not Norwegian sweaters, either. It was some terrible combination of the two. Anyone remember what I'm talking about? I can't find one online.

Wait, it was kind of like this, only bright green:

3. A victim of mall culture, I could not afford a Swatch
so I opted for the buttons from Spencer's, like: "White Dopes on Punk".

6. I didn't do any of that fashion stuff in high school.
I went out of my way to look weird.

One of my favorite outfits was a short black dress, worn with yellow and black patterned tights, and green tennis shoes.

If I looked too strange, my mother would yank me back in the door. But I really worked at my weird look.
