...it was every other day. Now she's lucky if she can find one day a week in which to get funky.

2. Once during college, my roommate invited some friends over to jam electrically...
.
.
... in our living room where I was sleeping on the couch. The bass drum
was about three feet from my head, but I had spent six years in the Army
as a field medic and had REALLY learned to sleep anytime anywhere.
.
Eventually, I woke up during a long noodly space jam and lyrics just
came to me -- two whole verses without effort (I've forgotten the second
one -- below is the first and the third... it was written by our rhythm
guitarist and it's the one I WISH I had written).
.
Despite not having sung since junior high choir AND the fact that I have
unbelievable stage fright that I never got over despite how well we did
(prior to each and every performance, I would seriously HOPE that the
power would go out so that we didn't have to get up in front of all
those people -- although no more than 15 seconds into the first song,
I wanted to jam ALL FUCKING NIGHT LONG), I got up and sang the verses
for them. When I was finished, my roommate said, "We NEED a singer...
you want in?
.
I was close to 30 years old and figured my time for that had passed.
What a WONDERFUL experience it turned out to be.
.
.
Punjab Boogie
.
If we did it in the Taj Mahal
Chances are we wouldn't get too far
But we can do it under starry skies
And if you want to we can go all night.
Put a red dot on my smaller head.
Wear a turban when you take me to bed.
We'll do the Punjab Boogie.
.
You can't worry 'bout what others say.
You gotta live your life in your own way.
You gotta do what you believe is right.
Search your heart and see what you can find.
But if you feel like giving love a chance,
here's a turban that can help you dance.
Just do the Punjab Boogie.
.
