NHL PLAYOFFS! Anyone wanna make some guesses???
Tentatively this is how it looks

In the East
(1) Tampa Bay Lightning v. (8) NY Islanders

(2) Boston Bruins v. (7) Montreal Canadiens

(3) Philadelphia Flyers v. (6) New Jersey Devils

(4) Toronto Maple Leafs v. (5) Ottawa Senators

In the West

(1) Detroit Red Wings v. (8) Nashville Predators

(2) San Jose Sharks v. (7) St. Louis Blues

(3) Vancouver Canucks v. (6) Calgary Flames

(4) Colorado Avalanche v. (5) Dallas Stars

Looks like some great first round matchups in the East, I CAN'T WAIT FOR PLAYOFF HOCKEY. SO pick your winners, and remember that after each round the teams are re-seeded

2. The capitals ownership saw the writing on the wall
and sold off all their assets to make a profit before the league shuts down

13. my picks
(1) Tampa Bay Lightning v. (8) NY Islanders
Isles, the Lightning always seem to choke

(2) Boston Bruins v. (7) Montreal Canadiens
Bruins

(3) Philadelphia Flyers v. (6) New Jersey Devils
Can I pick neither? they finished close but I'll go with the devils

(4) Toronto Maple Leafs v. (5) Ottawa Senators
Can the Sens overcome their Leaf's block. This will be the best first round series, possibly going 7. But I give the nod to the Leafs

(1) Detroit Red Wings v. (8) Nashville Predators
DETROIT RED WINGS

(2) San Jose Sharks v. (7) St. Louis Blues
St Louis

(3) Vancouver Canucks v. (6) Calgary Flames
Canucks

(4) Colorado Avalanche v. (5) Dallas Stars
Hard series but I say the avs win but get beat up in doing so

ROUND TWO
Bruins v. Isles: Bruins roll in this one
Leafs v. Devils: a second hard fought series, but the Leafs prevail I think

Wings v. Blues: Wings roll over the beat up blues
Canucks v. Avs: A bitter series this one will be, particularly given the regualr season bad blood. I say the avs will go down though because they had a hard first round series.

ROUND THREE
Bruins v. Leafs: The Leafs take this one I think
Wings v. Canucks: Wings prevail over the worn Canucks in a tight one

STANLEY CUP FINALS
Leafs v. Wings

DETROIT RED WINGS BABY

14. I always forgot about the re-seeded
As I Sabre fan I am a bit disapointed. The Sabres lost all desire the last two games once they knew the Islanders had clinched it. They came on a bit too late.

I do believe Tampa did breath a sigh of relief knowing that one of the Hottest teams in March will not be their frist opponents.

Anyway here is how I see it.

Tampa Bay (1) v Islanders(8)
Tampa (1)

2) Boston Bruins v. (7) Montreal Canadiens
Boston(2)

(3) Philadelphia Flyers v. (6) New Jersey Devils
New Jersey(6)

(4) Toronto Maple Leafs v. (5) Ottawa Senators
Ottawa (5)

In the West

(1) Detroit Red Wings v. (8) Nashville Predators
Detroit (1)

(2) San Jose Sharks v. (7) St. Louis Blues
San Jose (2)

(3) Vancouver Canucks v. (6) Calgary Flames
Calgary (6)

(4) Colorado Avalanche v. (5) Dallas Stars
Colorado (4)

Now this leaves:
In the East:

Tampa (1) v. New Jersey (6)
Tampa (1)

Boston (2) v. Ottawa (5)
Boston(2)

Thus,

Tampa V. Boston for the Eastern Championship with Tampa winning.

In the West:

Detroit (1) V. Calgary (6)
Detroit

San Jose (2) v. Colorado (4)
Colorado

Thus leaving Detroit against Colorado for the Western Championship with Colorado winning.

The Stanely Cup:
Tampa v. Colorado

With Tampa winning in 6.

That is my take with the current seeds.

15. Interesting
You think the Lightning can get over their serial choking?

As a former upstater I was watching the Sabres closely, too bad too because they were getting really hot. Buffalo is a team never to count out.

16. If the sabres did make the playoffs
I think they could of done quite well in the playoffs. They would of gave Tampa a huge finght I believe would of beat the Lightening in 6 games.

I am crossing my fingers that the whole problems with the league can get figured out.

It will be interesting to see some of the new rules that are suppose to go into affect if there is a next season.

20. My predictions
East

1. Tampa Bay over NY
2. Boston over Montreal
3. Jersey over Philadelphia, but it will be one hellofa series
4. I have to go with Toronto, if Belfor plays and plays well, they could go all the way.

West

1. Detroit steamrolling over Nashville, the Preds are just outgunned
2. San Jose over St. Louis, the blues barely squeaked into the playoffs so I don't think they'll stick around very long
3. Vancouver over Calgary, the flames have that killer defense, but only Iginla up front, plus Vancouver his on a hot streak
4. I hate to say it, but I think Dallas will upset Colorado, the Avs are the coldest team heading into the post-season and unless they get a wake-up call, it's curtains for them.

21. My picks
East

Lightning(1) over Isles(8) in 5, too much talent on the 'Bolts side

Canadiens(7) over Bruins (2) in 6, it's been a long time since Canadiens team this good has been in the playoffs; I'm still not sold on Raycroft in net either; Boston's talent has done it well this season, but emotion can carry the ocean....and the Habs into the second round.

Devils(6) over Flyers(3) in 7, Brodeur will carry the Devils over the finish line in a close, physical series.

Maple Leafs(4) over Senators(5) in 6, too many HOFers on the Leafs side, if Belfour's back holds up, Leafs advance in a good series.

West

Predators(8) over Red Wings(1) in 6 -My upset special, Wings have a history of choking in the first round.

Sharks(2) over Blues(7)in 5 -Nabakov is too good

Flames(6) over Vancouver (3)in 7 -Iginla and Co. have been too good; similar emotional situation to Canadiens; long time, no see

Avalanche(4) over Stars(5)in 6- Too much spped and skill on Avs side

East Rounds 2, 3

Round 2
Canadiens(4) over Lightning(1) in 6- Tampa gets in over it's head in this series

Maple Leafs(2) over New Jersey in 7- Flip a coin in this one; I picked the Leafs in this case because I'm a big Ronnie Francis fan (perhaps the most compassionate athelete I know of)

Maple Leafs over Canadiens in 7-Don't even TRY to get tix for this one; it's Canada's equivalant of Yankees Red Sox, Leafs are a team of destiny this year

West

Sharks(1) over Preds(4) in 4 -Nashville's inexperience kills them
Avs(2) over Flames(3) in 7- A great series, kills the Avs in next round

Sharks over Avs in 5-Colorado is tired from exhausting series against Calgary

Finals

Leafs over Sharks-As I said(and it pains me as a Habs fan to say it), Leafs are the team of destiny this year

27. This year has some of the best 1st round matchups ever
EAST ROUND ONE

TAMPA BAY OVER NEW YORK ISLANDERS 4-2
I think the Isles are scrappy enough to hang around, but the Lightning are too talented and the Isles aren't good enough in goal.

MONTREAL OVER BOSTON 4-2
This all hinges on Joe Thornton's status. If he can't go, the B's are cooked. I like the Habs, Theodore may still be in Boston's head from the series he stole two years ago. Montreal is underrated, Bruins have flopped in the playoffs recently, I see it continuing.

PHILADELPHIA OVER NEW JERSEY 4-3
This series hinges on Scott Stevens. He's not 100%, and that's the difference. There's a bit of slippage from the Devils this year. Flyers do need to figure out their goaltending situation (again), but I think the Devils are a bit fragile this year.

TORONTO OVER OTTAWA 4-3
There has never been a first round series pitting two teams under this much pressure. Ever. I picked the Sens at the beginning of the year, but Lalime looks shaky in goal. The Leafs 6-0 thumping of Ottawa last night won't help. Still, a war.

WEST ROUND ONE

DETROIT OVER NASHVILLE 4-0
The Wings have to be considered the Cup favorites. The Preds are the ultimate "we're just happy to be here" team. Great story, but out in four.

SAN JOSE OVER ST. LOUIS 4-3
Best series no one will see. Teams have some playoff history together, could get chippy. Both teams finished strong. Sharks are fantastic on home ice, it will be the difference in game seven.

CALGARY OVER VANCOUVER 4-2
The Canucks stepped it up at the end to take the NW division, but I like the unsung Flames. I think they can neutralize Naslund. Calgary is quick and physical and deep.

DALLAS OVER COLORADO 4-1
I see a surprisingly easy time for the Stars. I don't like the way the Avs finished the year, plus Turco is the best goaltender in the west, and Dallas peaked at the right time.

I'm not going to predict past this round due to re-seeding. I'll see how I do in round one, then pick again when we have conference semifinal matchups.
