WTF! My gf was just in fender bender caused by some kid
Edited on Thu Aug-04-11 02:07 PM by geardaddy
and she was given a breathalyzer test. Some kid and the mother hit my gf car and the police arrived to give a breathalyzer to my gf.

This was in a snooty suburb where my gf was doing a gardening gig. She had a friend helping her. The cop didn't even talk to the kid about the accident.

:wtf:

edit for typos.

1. Is your girl friend obviously not from the snooty suburb?
It might make for an interesting news report for your local TV station.

The cop kept saying she could smell alcohol on my g/f's breath. She had just finished gardening for four hours in the sun.

8. Thanks.
She was pretty shaken up. I said she should have asked for the cops badge number, but I think she was too shaken to think of that.

11. she might want to call a lawyer. how can there be NO report?
if a cop comes to a scene then it was public property and she has to justify her time . . .

26. She needs to notify her insurance; they will investigate and protect her/their interests
My insurance co was enormously helpful, even though I didn't file a claim. The insurance co of the asshole who hit me was also quite helpful, believe it or not! But she does need to be proactive (god I hate that word) to make sure she doesn't get sued.

19. In Illinois I believe you always do a report.
One of the things that always comes up during big snowfalls is that emergency rules for reports are in affect and those involved in a n accident shouldn't wait for the cop but rather drive to the nearest police station to file.

41. Actually, it's "no one is injured (even slightly), and there's less than $500 property damage"
Still need to file a report if there's any injury, no matter how slight (bruising, cuts from the airbag, etc), and the insurance company rep will probably file a report for her.

The asshole who hit ms said there was no report. I went to the police station with my incident report number and there WAS a report - saying she was at fault. Please have her check!

35. It can take 24 hours for the report to be issued
After my accident, my husband called the officer to make sure there'd be a report (and to find out why she wasn't issued a ticket - because my injuries didn't require an ambulance!!).

21. About a year ago I was working for a guy
who practiced law out of his home in a snooty suburb. Abusive shitheel cop pulls me over and threatened to confiscate my car because of an outstanding ticket. Checked, and ticket had been paid two months before. Three weeks later another shitheel cop pulls me over and CONFISCATES my car on the same grounds and writes me ANOTHER ticket, supposedly for driving without a valid license of the basis of the previously paid ticket. Two months w/no car and $800 in storage fees for the car (which I had to borrow) later I go to court. I explain to the prosecutor what happened and she says "let me check with the court clerk." I hear the court clerk say "there's nothing on this guy - his ticket was paid months ago." Prosecutor apologized and immediately gave me the forms I needed to file to straighten everything out and clear my record.

For the record I am a 50+ male who does not look like a hippie/punk type.

My real offense? Driving a somewhat rusty 13 year old car in the snooty suburb. There is no life form lower than suburban cops. :grr:

22. I was hit by a red-light runner in May - your GF has my TOTAL and COMPLETE sympathy!!
Even if hadn't recently been hit by an asshole, shed still have my sympathy, but having just gone through all that - 35 days of my car in the shop and $9K in damage done to it (which I didn't have to pay, thanks be) - I really know how maddening it is to have your life endangered, your car damaged and life disrupted by someone too fucking stupid to pay attention and then act like somehow you should have been driving a flying car or something. That sucks. I hope she's okay, her car is easily fixed, and that the other driver's insurance goes WAY up.

29. It's a minor fender bender
and everyone's ok. I think the suburban mom prolly called the cops because we had an older car and my g/f's passenger was an African-American man with tats.

32. File a claim anyway
I'm glad everyone is okay. She still needs to file a claim against the driver. Bad driving needs consequences.

(In CA, police have to be called for accidents on public streets where damage is more than $500, I think - could be $1,000 - either way, you can't always tell by looking, even if it is an older car)

30. God that sucks.
I once was hit by a red-light runner. Totalled my car. Turns out he was driving without a license and had several DUIs. Hence, no license. I still had to pay all the shit, because he was driving his friend's truck.

34. She came close to killing me
I drive a small sports car. If I hadn't waited that extra moment at the light, she would've gone through my passenger door and onto my lap. All my extra airbags can't stop a heavy Northstar engine going 45. As it was, she took out my suspension, quarter panel, bumper, headlight, and turned my alloy rim into an oval.

I live out in that area and that sounds like the kind of shit the keystone cops do around here.

I'm glad to hear your GF is safe and her car is relatively undamaged.

What a bunch of assholes. I think that it was Wayzata was one of the reasons the prosecutor threw everything out of court.
