My little chickadee, a baby robin and another bird
I'm not sure what the last one is - female or immature chickadee? Something else?

1. Beautiful!
I'm not able to donate at this time, so I really appreciate you folks who post your photos here.
Really stellar shots, thanks for sharing.

2. The first pic is especially cool
Makes it look like birdy has an extra set of steel wings and talons.

3. Thanks! That's what I liked about it.
I wasn't sure if others would see it the same way!

5. Definitely immature robins ... or the adult robins were feeding house finches
Juncos and black-capped chickadees look very similar to me. I'm almost certain the last one isn't a sparrow; it's too big and the markings are very different from the sparrows who pester me in another part of this building (where I don't have my camera with me).

But I KNOW the second bird is an immature robin simply because I watched them from being eggs - otherwise, I'd be clueless.

17. No one can identify juvies
(except apparently XemaSab!)

I just did a google image search on a juvie junco and thought a picture looked a lot like your little guy. Problem is, juvies don't look like adults so it's always hard to tell.

Your pics are still awesome and that's what matters. :)

18. I can identify juvies of a certain bird
Edited on Tue Aug-09-11 08:55 PM by REP
That cannot be mentioned at this time and correctly identify their gender when they're babies. Maybe because there's so damn many of them on my porch, or because they sit on me (they are totally fearless, even as fluffy baby birds). I take more pictures of them than any other species, largely because they yell at me when I try to take pictures of other birds!

PS I looked it up, too, and I'm pretty sure it's a juvenile junco (my iPad thinks I mean "juvenile junkie") after reviewing my unposted photos against Cornell and Audobon plus he's always pestering the adult junco! And thanks for the compliment! :hi:

15. they're not immature robins but sometimes robin put food in any open beak
it's possible you saw an adult robin who was highly stimulated to drop off food when passing that nest which would explain why you would see a robin feeding a different species

isn't there a famous photo somewhere of a robin who couldn't resist feeding a goldfish each time he flew past the pond?

i remember seeing the photo in maybe the 1980s so maybe it never made it to the internets?

6. Oops, I was (unsurprisingly) wrong - purple finch, not robins
Got out my Audobon guide and went to the Cornell site to check against my photos (there's a bunch more I didn't post) - what I thought was a crapload more female robins are actually the juveniles; the second bird is a purple finch I'm pretty sure - her markings are much clearer and brighter than a house finch is supposed to be. And the junco is an "Oregon junco."

And hey, I learned something! :-)

10. In the first shot
the bird looks like he/she is bouncing a food tidbit off his/her beak. Great shots!!
