Movie recommendation: "The Music Never Stopped"
It's 1986 and a middle-aged couple's long-estranged son has returned to them. He's been hospitalized for a brain tumor and after surgery is unable to form new memories, or remember anything before 1970. He appears spaced-out most of the time and can't carry on a reasonable conversation but his dad does some research and finds a music therapist that might help.
It's a small, unassuming movie but it has some powerful moments and a fine performance by J.K Simmons as the dad. This movie may not be on most people's radar but if you remember the culture clashes of the 1960s or you're a fan of that era's music, you'll probably want to see it. Based on a true story.

3. The saddest part of the movie...
Each time he's told a high school friend died in Vietnam it's like he's heard it for the first time.
The happiest part of the movie: his dad gets to tell him that Nixon resigned in disgrace.

7. Sounds like a heartbreaker. Who could stand that awful shock over and over?
Actually, sounds very poignant, with moments of humor, kind of like life. Thanks for the details... :hi:

4. There's a huge disparity of opinion at Rotten Tomatoes
The critics gave it 65%, which isn't bad, but the audience gave it 90%. The Dead-Head friend who recommended it to me suspects fellow Dead Heads pushed up the audience numbers. :-)

9. IMDb seemed to like it a lot, especially those who wrote reviews...
But those are generally movie buffs, so I'd be more likely to trust their recommendations. :hi:

6. I'm a fan of Simmons, too
His voice-overs for the game "Portal 2" are hilarious.
