Got some issues that are dragging me down. Tough stuff for me.
Need a list of upbeat films, or movies that end ok, or are just plain fun to watch..
Any titles would be appreciated..Thank you.. Stuart

Make it a Ruth Gordon film festival.

If you want to be me, be me
If you want to be you, be you.

Let's see, I always enjoy "My Favorite Year" and "The Good-bye Girl."

6. lordy, "The Hangover" was funny! I also like "Love, Actually",
"Sneakers", "Midnight Run" (really funny movie with Robert de Niro and Charles Grodin)

"Sense and Sensibility" is a chick-flick, but really well done and it is very serene (the one from the 90s with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet)

"Wonder Boys" is good, and I always like the ass-kicking Bourne movies - all three of them.

I'm sure I'll think of more -- I hope you feel better. Remember, as my mom always said, 'This too shall pass'. Might not feel like it now, but it will.

14. I always enjoy Sneakers
A definite enjoyment!

Along that line of Sense and Sensibility is Enchanted April, though I would consider that, in my eyes, to be a "chick flick." I have lots of those I enjoy--The Secret Garden and A Little Princess (the newer ones) are particularly pleasing.

- the animated one - the last one done while Walt was still alive, and IMO the best. Great music, fabulous animation.

Yes, it's a prison story...

But it's one of the best movies ever made, EVER.

It will be uplifting for you...

The ending makes me cry, and in a good way...

Of course it's so old that it has a bittersweet quality to it now, but the guys are good-looking, the script is light and funny and the music is "passable". As someone sagely said once "it's like taking a happy pill.". I hope your issues are resolved.

12. Stuart, I would suggest
Back to School with Rodney Dangerfield. Most people have seen Caddyshack, which is quite fun, but Back to School has a lighter feel to it, filled with a good amount of optimism.

You could see The Missionary, with Michael Palin. Good film. Almost any of the Monty Python films is good for cheering up.

If you were a female, there are some I could suggest which are uplifting, but one you might like is Educating Rita, with Michael Caine and Julie Walters.

Almost any Bond films--I'm partial to the Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton ones, personally.

M.A.S.H.--the original with Elliott Gould and Donald Sutherland.

Network

Kelly's Heroes--some people put this one down, but it's brainless and fun without any emotional baggage.

Blazing Saddles--a personal favorite, too. It never fails to make me happy. Any Mel Brooks film is funny and relatively light.

That's about it for now. Even if you don't watch them tonight or soon, put them on your list. :)

21. Second "Galaxy Quest". Would add "40 YO Virgin" and "Tombstone"
I know it doesn't sound cheery (lots of violence) but "Tombstone" has a wonderful "you called down the thunder, well now you've got it!" sequence towards the end that will cheer you up. And Val Kilmer is amazing and funny as Doc Holliday.

"Groudhog Day" is sweet and funny and uplifiting, if you haven't seen it. "Stand and Deliver" is just plain ole uplifting.

"Mystic Pizza" is a great chick-flick if you're a woman (guys wouldn't appreciate it)

19. Best ones I've seen lately..........
Secretariat (I've seen it several times, and the last race never ceases to move me to happy tears) and Paul (I haven't laughed that hard in a LONG time).

I'll second MFM's vote for "Big Fish" -- one of my all-time favorites.

I also love me some darker comedies when I'm in a funk -- Lake Placid & Dogma are two favorites.

29. I like "The Man Who Went Up a Hill"
Nice story, some good laughs and some good drama and romance, with a good ending, and I LOVE the music. But then I love Wales and Celtic stuff.

"Up" is really funny, the dogs are great and the curmudgeon really grows on you. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" - even the second time I watched it.

For the science fiction fan, "Matinee" is lots of fun, especially if you know anything about William Castle or were a kid during the Cuban missile crisis. The cast is really good.

There are some really great upbeat films on this thread that you both will enjoy. My rec is Legally Blonde, a joyous romp from the first scene to the last. What I like the most about it is that the cast seems to be having so much fun making this film.
