Have you ever had to wash your cats? I did once. They had some
sort of vermin on them. The big guy went first and I stood him in about 2 inches of very warm water. I slowly wet him. He was calm as I lathered him up with the cat soap. He was good when I rinsed him off though I did have ahold of his shoulders. Next the kitten. She houled so loud the second she got wet the big cat came running in the bathroom growling (he thought I was hurting the kitten). Needless to say her bath was much shorter.

1. Once when I was a graduate student living in a four-person apartment
our communal cat went outside, rolled around under some cars, and came back covered in motor oil.

It took all four of us to wash him. He seemed to grow extra clawed legs and toothy mouths for the purpose of resisting the bath.

Later, we took him to the vet for another reason, and we regretted that we had not known the scruff-of-the-neck trick when we needed to bathe him.

2. We had a flea problem once - 3 cats
OMG the fusing and yowling! You would have thought they were being tortured.

We did them in the sink. One figured out she could spread her legs wide enough to block the dunk.
One was a part Siamese whose yowl could be heard 2 blocks away.
And all hid immediately after - oh it was a good time.
Fleas finally died and we pulled all our carpet to help keep them down.

3. I have to bathe my cats when I visit my cat-allergic friend
She and her sons are allergic to cats: she and her middle son get asthma from their dander, but her youngest son tolerates kitties. If I don't bathe them, the next day she's unable to breathe.

The last time I bathed my cats was the day before Easter, when I spent the weekend with her.

4. Yes...
I had to get paint off of my cat once and it was not exactly a lot of fun. She didn't mind being bathed. I just think the length of time it took was annoying to her.

5. Yes, one of them got in the crawl space and got himself all dirty.
But I have repressed the memory of the actual bath.

:scared:

9. My husband has suggested confining the cat in a wire mesh
cage and dunking the cage in and out of soapy water, then spraying the cat with the rinse water.

I'm pretty sure he's kidding.

12. Actually, I did basically that same thing with a cat. It worked pretty well.
We had a stray or dumped older cat show up. She had obviously been out in the elements a while, because she was skin and bones, heavily matted, filthy, and had fleas. But, she was really friendly and sweet-natured. We decided to take her in, try to fix her up and find a better situation for her.

First step was obviously dealing with the skin issues. I had to literally shave her down, with a combination of electric clippers and scissors, because she was that matted, and a longhaired cat. She tolerated that pretty well, she was scared, of course, but I put a collar and leash on her and tied it so she couldn't get away.

But, the bath was just too much. She didn't try to bite me, just used her claws to try to climb my arms and escape.

So, I got an old pillow case, put her in it except for her head, and used some wide ribbon to tie it securely enough that she couldn't get out. Then proceeded to do the entire cat bath/flea treatment pillow case and all. Worked out better for both of us, because it took less time that way, and she kind of just got resigned to the fact that she was trapped, stopped struggling, and just moaned as if she were being killed.

I also gently blow-dried her through the pillow case at first after toweling, and then took her out and finished the job.

She looked shaved but better, and smelled about a million times better.

14. Washing the cat is easy with these simple instructions that were given to me by my friend Sydney
1. Add one capful of shampoo to the water in the toilet. Put both lids up.

2. Pick up the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.

3. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close both lids (You may need to stand on the lid.) The cat will self-agitate and make ample suds. (Never mind the noises that come from the toilet, the cat is actually enjoying this.)

4. Flush the toilet three or four times. (This provides a "power-wash" and "rinse".)

5. Have someone open the door to the outside. (Be sure that there are no people between the toilet and the outside door.)

6. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift both lids.

7. The now-clean cat will rocket out of the toilet, and run outside where he will dry himself off. The toilet will also be sparkling clean.

Sincerely,
Your Dog Sydney
