Poll question: What's your favorite thing about Guinness?

Guinness is lower in alcohol, calories and carbohydrates than Samuel Adams, Budweiser, Heineken and almost every other major-brand beer not classified as light or low-carb. It has fewer calories and carbohydrates than low-fat milk and orange juice, too.

Brennan, like many cardiologists, recommends a drink a day for his cardiac patients. Red wine, in particular, has been shown to help prevent heart attacks. Now maybe it's beer's turn. A University of Wisconsin study last fall found that moderate consumption of Guinness worked like aspirin to prevent clots that increase the risk of heart attacks.

In the study, Guinness proved twice as effective as Heineken at preventing blood clots. Guinness is loaded with flavonoids, antioxidants that give the dark color to many fruits and vegetables.

These antioxidants are better than vitamins C and E, the study found, at keeping bad LDL cholesterol from clogging arteries. Blocked arteries also contributes to erectile dysfunction, as does overindulgence in alcohol.

Guinness has a higher concentration than lighter beers of vitamin B, which lowers levels of homocysteine, linked to clogged arteries. And researchers have found that antioxidants from the moderate use of stout might reduce the incidence of cataracts by as much as 50 percent.

It's milk's line, but beer gives you strong bones, too.

"The reason, we think, is that beer is a major contributor to the diet of silicon," says Katherine Tucker, an associate professor of nutritional epidemiology at Tufts University's Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy.

4. Guinness is just not the same out of a bottle or can
It's hard to find guinness on tap at any bars in my area. It's a good dark beer, but I also like Killians Irish Red.

14. Slice the can with a knife
Out comes the ball. Drill a 3/16 hole and let it dry out if wet.

After you fill it with the big bang stuff hot glue a 1/2" visco fuse and use 50 grains of FFG to launch it into the sky! Boom!!!

11. The smiley face trick.
When you get your pint draw with your finger a smiley face in the head. It will still be there when you finish. That's why there's a smiley face in the commercial above.

13. Have you ever been to Dublin?
When the wind is blowing in the right direction (from the south) you can enjoy the unique scent all over Dublin's North Side. Mmmmmmmm.

Damnit, DS1. Now you've made me want to go back to Ireland even worse than I usually do!!!!

17. Ah, the aroma is just after bein' intoxicatin' , isn't it?
As Dubliners say. If you like Guinness (and I do -- in fact, last night made a beef stew with Guinness in it, so I am still tasting it), it is a great place to be. The tour also is wonderful, though I understand they have started charging for the samples since I last was there.

First time I was in Dublin -- many years ago -- got in in the wee hours of the morning, just off the boat from Liverpool. We drove around for a while (in a VW bug with psychedelic paint and expired German plates, oh well) looking for a place to have breakfast. Stopped a kid on the virtually deserted streets and asked him. He said "I eat it at home". We pursued our chase and finally found a place. Then to the Irish Tourist Board to find a place to crash. Lucked out. After breakfast and a bed, stop number one was the Guinness Brewery. Think we hit the place at 10:30 in the morning. Oh well.
