Beards, Hair Cut Off In Amish-On-Amish Attacks
A group of religious castoffs has been attacking fellow Amish, cutting off their hair and beards in an apparent feud over spiritual differences in the deeply traditional community, a sheriff said Thursday.

Members of a group of families disavowed by mainstream Amish have cut the beards off men and the hair off a half-dozen or more men and women, Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla said. He said the cutting apparently was meant to be degrading.

The attacks occurred over the past three weeks in the heart of Ohio's Amish population, one of the largest in the United States.

A 57-year-old woman blamed her sons and a son-in-law for an attack on her husband and said they were involved in a cult. She pointed at her husband's short, ragged, short beard, then took off a bandanna and showed bare patches on her scalp.

5. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
Amshklessssssssssssssssssssssss...<drool>

Actually that isn't so far out of line. I live in Florida and short shorts and a thin tank top are regularly considered fancy dress for the tan and toned tamales in the Sunshine state. I don't mind seeing them out at night but I'm so used to it that I rarely give even a second glance. OK, third glances are rare, second glances are relatively common.

So the place I work is a pretty large and diverse company - 1000+ employees spread out around the state - and we happen to have several women whom I believe to be Muslim (i never actually discussed religion with them as we aren't that close) but whether they are Muslim or simply middle Eastern of some other faith they always wear the traditional robes and head dress (not the one with just the eyes showing but still a head scarf - sorry I am not sure the actual names of these different pieces of clothing) and so the only thing I really know of them is their faces. And I gotta tell ya, there are some achingly, heart-breakingly beautiful eyes inside those scarves.

Maybe it's as simple as the forbidden fruit thing but I think it also has something to do with the way they carry themselves. The ladies I know are smart, and funny absolute pleasures to work with and I find myself going out of my way to help them when they need it just because it is so nice to be around them. And I sincerely don't mean because I think they were raised to be subservient - these ladies are not subservient to anyone in that way. They excel at their jobs and they don't gripe about petty shit and they are always so polite and I just respect them tremendously. But it still catches me by surprise how affected I am by their eyes. All around beautiful people whom I have never seen more than a little bit of forehead down to their chins.

If they dress and behave they way they do because of their religion I can honestly say they are the type of religious people more religious people ought to be. Not necessarily their brand of faith but just that other sects and denominations and faiths could learn something from these ladies. As an atheist I think I can learn from them too.

and I'm not sure how a post about amshkles turned beautiful eyes got to be here but there ya go. lol
