2. All of the choices are valid at certain times. More choices, not listed, are also valid.
Where is flanger? Where is spring reverb? Why are you trying to limit our horizons, man?

I spent years using lots of pedals, all of the above. They all have lots of uses. I don't use any effects these days. Of course I have all the pedals I've collected over 50 years so if I need them...

I suggest you get a good multi effects pedal. Something that has all of the above and a few more. They aren't all that expensive these days and are lots of fun. Every one I know loves their Line 6 Pods, even the mini pods. Plus they have amp really nice amp simulation.

4. Effects are Great additions to a nice basic amp sound
I have a big pedalboard. I have an Axe FX Ultra too, so I have a lot of effects to play with, and have a lot of experimenting to do. But you have to have a great basic sound, whether clean or crispy, whatever.
