Today's College Football Thread
The big game this week is #1 LSU at #2 Alabama. But there are also two other games between ranked teams: #14 Kansas State at #3 Oklahoma State and #9 South Carolina at #7 Arkansas.

My Oklahoma Sooners host the Aggies of Texas A&M. :woohoo:

So who does your team play? What games are you looking forward to?

Hard game to watch what with all the references to the debacle in Norman. How did the Sooners not TCB against this team? Sigh.

11. Looks like Arizona has been playing better since letting Stoops go
They seemed to play pretty well against UCLA last week. Of course, following Stoops was the main reason I found myself pulling for them, so some of my interest is gone :P. (That said, though, I wasn't surprised that he got fired, nor do I think it was the wrong call.)

14. yep -- too bad he never learned to rein that in
After Mike had been a hot commodity as a coordinator for a couple of years but not yet landed a head job, a reporter asked Bob Stoops if Mike's temperament might be holding him back. Bob said that he didn't think so, that he himself had been as intense and fiery as Mike as a coordinator but that was a good thing for a coordinator; he realized that being HC required a different temperament and so he dialed it back and he figured Mike would do the same. I guess he was wrong about that. (Though, to be honest, I don't think Bob was as hotheaded as Mike when he was a coordinator.)

The odd thing, considering MS's temperament, is that the defense this year (and last year too, perhaps?) seemed to lack intensity.

13. that was a tough call, but
I think the officials were right not to overturn it. I don't think it was clear that he had control when the ball hit the ground. I guess if they'd called it a TD on the field it would have been tough to overturn that call as well.

I saw the hit a bunch of times on replay but missed it when it first happened. And at one point I saw "not moving" on the closed captioning and wasn't sure if they were talking about the player not moving or the medical staff not moving the player. I'm glad to hear he was moving right afterwards.

48. I can understand being exhausted, and congrats on the big win, but I have no interest in a rematch
I love seeing the immovable objects of those defenses, but I'd like to see something at least gesturing towards an irresistible force matching up on the offensive side.

A 9-6 game with 4 missed field goals doesn't scream "rematch for the national championship" to me. :)

That said, though, it's a huge win for LSU. Enjoy. :toast:

49. It seems to me that low-scoring defensive games often turn into rematches that
are high-scoring offensive slugfests. :)

It's not so much that I want to see that exact game again, but Alabama looked awesome, and I'd really like to see my Tigers put them away more decisively. It just feels like a rematch is mutually deserved.

Of course, LSU still has to deal with Arkansas, which is a non-trivial challenge...

52. I love ancient history
and ancient history tells me that OU usually loses to a team that they are suppose to dominate. I thought that team would be Baylor, but TT got them at home, at Norman! :P To bad the OU bias isn't worse, they lost to an unranked team and only dropped 6 spots, so if OU wins out, they are still in the NT game....which I think they will make it to the NT game, OU has owned OSU for 8plus years, if memory serves the last time OSU beat OU was what...fall of 2002....

I would like to see Stanford get in there, but I think oregon will get them....

What chaps my hide lately, is that a lot of talking football heads are stating a one loss Alabama will get another crack at LSU...I hate the fact that, that pov is being pushed. I'm an avid OU hater, but I'd prefer to see them against LSU, than an Alabama rematch....
