Lets talk turkey
We're 1 week away. How's your Thanksgiving shaping up? Mine will likely be a small family affair rather than a large one. Same menu as always. Turkey, Pies, Cranberry Sauce. :9

1. Cannot decide.
Go to friends' house (she's a grad of Scottsdale Culinary Inst), cook either a turkey breast or some Cornish Hens at home for the 2 of us....OR....go to my SIL's Mom's house, where there will be 80+ people....mostly kids.....hmmmm.....

9. Okay, so I exaggerated a bit
Edited on Fri Nov-18-11 08:28 AM by blueamy66
But she's got 5 kids and then each kid has kids and each kids kid has kids....I have 2 nieces and a nephew and 2 "step nephews"....each niece has 3 kids each.....the other siblings have 5, oh forget it.....bunches of kids...so let's go with 50....and my guy is a Packers fan and only cares about the game, not the turkey :-) And no beer allowed...so, think we're going to the friend's house. :-)

and yeah, it's a 6 bedroom house...pretty big

on edit: Also, my SIL's Mom adopted 4 kids too....so she actually has 9 kids...I'm trying to do the math....but the love is abounding

2. OY the vegetarians I suddenly have to put up with!
But they're nice vegetarians so I'm having a couple of cornish hens and going wild with sides.

8. I was invited to (and courageously ATTENDED) a Thanksgiving feast pot luck...
.
.
.
... put on by many friends who were SERIOUS foodies as well as vegetarians.
.
.
.
I have it mentally archived as one of the most memorable, remarkable and delicious meals in my lifetime.
.
.
.
I didn't miss the turkey at all -- and nobody went that "tofurkey" route either -- whatever the heck THAT stuff is.

7. I got my turkey hunting all done...
Walked into a grocery store and about 15 minutes later walked out having bagged these two turkeys that had been just sitting there in the cooler. One is 14 pounds and the other is 11 pounds. The 14 pound one we're going to bake in the oven in the traditional manner. The 11 pound one is going for a swim in the turkey frier (after of course it has been thawed and it will be doing so outside). Might get some chocolate and whipped cream pies. We have plenty of wine to help the turkey go down.
