Okay... I'm going to see "The Passion of the Christ."

I have hardly a clue how, but I am almost certain it will affect me. I'm a little nervous, but being a Catholic, I kinda look forward to it, you know?

I'm going with a religious group. After the 2-hour movie, we will talk about it. However, I doubt much will be said; I've heard people say they were speechless after the movie.

I hope to give my review of the movie this evening, but I, too, may be speechless.

I'm protestant, not Catholic, and I have to say I loved the movie and thought it was very well done - both technically and artistically, but also theologically. I would have done a few things different, but that could be my protestantism thinking than any accurate biblical interpretation.

But overall, a fantastic movie.

And it's violent, but I never thought it was gratuitous or overdone (except that there is a lot of blood loss, but that doesn't really detract from the rest of it). I thought the violence was accurate and appropriate.

I think you'll have a meaingful experience - esepcially with time to discuss and talk about it afterward with fellow co-religionists. I missed the chance to see with it my church, sadly, and ended up seeing it with my 7th Day Adventist brother-in-law who didn't know much about the Jesus to begin with so our discussion time was rather thin, most of it being spent answering his questions. :-)

It's a great movie.-

It's just footage of a dude getting the shit beat out of him, interjected with brief Bible cliches like "oh father why have thou forsaken me" and "take this bread; this is my body", named "passion of the Christ".

Were it called "Johnny gets beat", nobody would pay any attention, since the movie is in IMO one of the emptiest movies I've ever seen.

i feel very strongly that dems should not directly or indirectly suport right wingers like MEL GIBSON..its nothing against christ..i just dont want to economically support a cruel agenda

I saw the film and can understand why it has received such mixed reviews. Most movies have a beginning (introduce characters), a middle (develop conflict) and an end (resolve conflict, dramatic conclusion). This movie has only an end. It presumes that you already know the beginning and the middle of the story.

Hence, the movie is like a Rorschach test, in that what you get out of it is dictated largely by what you bring to the movie. If you do not know the gospel story, or otherwise do not care about the events or the characters in that story, you will not have an emotional context for the "dramatic conclusion," that is the entirety of the film. It would be akin to watching the last 20 minutes of "Gone With the Wind," without having ever seen or read the rest of the story. Why would you care about any of it? Moreover, because of the ultraviolence, without an understanding and/or appreciation of the "backstory" that is omitted from the Passion, I imagine it would be at best boring and at worst a snuff film.
