While folks are answering this, I just got an offer from my cable company for digital phone service (local and long distance). They said I could keep my phone number. How does this work and has anyone tried it?
Please feel free to be technical if you wish, I speak "geek"
came "bundled" with our hi speed internet. After a few gliches it works just fine BUT if you change your mind you will have to pay the local phone company to get hooked back up on their copper to the CO before you can change to another provider (over $200 in our case) so we stick with Cox
I've had this place (aka Isterra) for a few years now. They will even pick up your local toll calls very cheap. They've saved me a bundle without a doubt.
One month my long distance bill was only $3+ or something ridiculous (should have framed that one). Depending on where you are the rates vary. Its worth checking out in any event and you can pay the bill online and they will reimburse you for any connection fees that may be charged to your phone bill.
You can dial direct (no extra #'s required) and there is no monthly charge or limits or minimums on anything. I'd highly recommend them! :D
