The feel good hit of the season
is not Passion of the Christ.

My folks are over for Easter and for some reason my Dad wanted to go see PotC. That struck me as odd as neither my folks nor I are particularly religious. My dad is more of an Alamo kind of guy. Anyway we went to see it and it was pretty much what I expected.

Just color me confused. Why focus almost entirely on the physical brutality when there is so much more, and so much more interesting, in the story of Jesus?

1. Because
people don't like to think nor do they like idealism. They like instant gratification. Why point out the work of Christ's life? That's boring. Death sells, especially if it's gritty and violent.

As with "Gladiator, people like it because "that's how things were back then".

Like Gladiator, this 'movie' was poorly written too - just knowing what it concentrates on is enough.

2. I tried to go in and look at it as just a movie
but the lady in front of me cried through most of it.

I did like the sound track though.

3. I haven't seen the move, but I have really basic cable...
...and 3 out of 12 channels are "Religious". One of them was showing clips from the movie interspersed with comments by Mel Gibson ("Jim really WAS Jesus...he was acting without looking like he was acting") that sort of thing. It didn't confuse me, just made me angry. Ok, the Aramaic sounded like my grandmother's Gaelic with an Italian accent, which was confusing enough. But I agree with you...why ignore all that Jesus said prior to Palm Sunday for the sake of a two hour snuff film?

4. I was disctracted by the weird scenes of Satan
creeping around. What was that about?

5. I sort of liked those
in a creepy horror flick kind of way.
