Anyone here know how to fix Commodore 128's/64's
A long while ago, I used to play one of these things and I had all these cool games on it when I was a kid, but one day, the 3 key broke and I couldn't find anyone to fix it, so I had to put it out to pasture in my father's attic.

I was kinda having this discussion with someone over at another forum and thought I'd bring it up.

While I'm at it, what was your favorite Commodore game? Mine's Below the Root.

1. Never had to fix my 64's keyboard
but my guess is that it's easy. At least easier than modern keyboards. Just take it apart and you'll see what the problem is.

You could also buy a new (old) 64 at a garage sale or Ebay for a couple of bucks. OR you could fire up a 64 emulator on your PC. That's what I do.

My favorite game? M.U.L.E.

2. Here's a link you REALLY need to check out!!!
You can get an emulator for the C-64 (or just about anything else except for the latest generation of consoles) from multiple websites. The best one is called Zophar's Domain. Simply fire up any search engine and have a ball.

To acquire more ROM files for any system than you can shake a stick at, as well as just about every arcade game presently emulated, check out this gentleman's website. Hats off to Mr. Burton for taking the time to spread the joys of emulation to anyone with some extra pocket change:

4. Oh, and I forgot the "fave game" part....
I never had much exposure to the C-64 because my circle of friends were all Atari 800XL afficionados. It seems that you were required to drool over one of those systems while at the same time despising the other, and I ended up in the Atari camp. :)

My favorite games for that system were Alternate Reality, Encounter, Flip & Flop, Rescue on Fractalis, the Ultima games, the Apshai games, Oil's Well, Spelunker and this one game that was like Pac Man where you were a robber trying to outwit the police on a very large maze (or maybe it was that you were the cops trying to nail the bad guys). At any rate it was one of the most insidiously difficult games of its kind I had ever played and I was obsessed with trying to get further in it.

8. If it works better than Project 64, I'll try it. Still want the keyboard
fixed though.

Thanks!

14. I remember at Radio Shack...
...you used to be able to buy a Commodore keyboard, like just the keys and the mechanism under it, and it had a cable coming out of it. This was like well over 15 years ago, and I suspect they were actually surplus Commodore 16 keyboards.

5. Mine's in the attic in original boxes
with monitor, tape, disk and about 20 pieces of software in boxes.

I will never touch it again until I put it up for sale in 20 years or so.

Now, if you'd asked how to fix a VIC-20, I could probably help. :silly:

10. the greatest damned computer ever made
at the time there were only apple2e's and sinclair zx81 spectrums and horrid little tandy's. Then a shining new computer came from commodore the VIC20 - 5 whole K of memory with a big slot in the back where you could stick in big brown cartridges with 8 or even 16k of additional memory! a huge leap forward in home computing. Then commodore brought out the C16 and followed it quickly with the C64 to compete with sinclair's 48k monstrosity that beat the C16 as it came out.

I loved my VIC20.

13. Usually
most Commodore problems can be solved by replacing the hamster that powers the CPU.

19. If You Need Parts
Check with the Ham Radio Operators. Quite a few Hams still use the C-64 for RTTY (Radio Teletype).
