Easter isn't much fun in a Muslim country....
I love being an expat for the most part, but today is just making me sad. I miss my family, and a ham dinner, and my husband has to work all day. I couldn't find peeps. My husband's grandfather died a few days ago, and we can't go to the funeral. I don't know whether to cry or eat all of my girls' Easter candy ( I improvised with their baskets.)

I will probably do a little of both.

2. How do Muslims celebrate easter?
They believe in the resurrection.

3. I am in the United Arab Emirates
which I love, but it is very different from America. ( I know, huge surprise.) As far as I can tell, the Muslims around here don't celebrate Easter.

My cleaning lady came to work today, and she's getting an extra large tip because I feel guilty letting her clean my house on my holiday!

4. If your kids are younger, they might like to do this
Try these free Easter craft patterns and projects. Print and color your own Easter holiday coloring books, calendars, games, and more

At least it's something in the spirit of the day to do?

5. Oh, I am so sad for you.
I am not that religious, but understand the importance of family holiday traditions. I remember when you said you were moving from your small town and were looking forward to this. At least you have your girls with you, and you can make your own traditions. Next year, maybe you can order Peeps? Try and stick with those that mean the most to you, as best you can. This will help both you and your children feel better.

7. It is more the family holiday thing than the religious aspect
of the holiday that makes me a little sad today. My life is wonderful, for the most part, here, and I certainly don't want to seem like I'm badmouthing Muslims. Most Muslims I meet are very friendly and they love my kids, which I appreciate. One of my Muslim friends even surprised the girls with a board game today, I thought that was so sweet.

Still, there's no denying I'm homesick. Good thing it's a little less than three months before I get to go home for two months. I bet I will miss it here, though, during those two months.
