Poll question: Homey don't play dat!
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0363262/

"Homey The Clown" movie to begin production...

If y'all remember "In Living Color" (a sketch comedy from 1990 whose first and third seasons are great, season 2 okay, everything later nowhere near as fresh...), Homey was one of the regular characters.

As with SNL characters, I dunno how they can make Homey a 90 minute event (or is it down to 80 minutes these days?) But unlike SNL, I'd probably give money to see this, even if they are a decade overdue...

ILC always did great spoofs of musicians. Milli Vanilli, MC Hammer, Crystal Waters, LL Cool J, all great stuff... (They had a music special in season 3 - which had been altered between the original airing and the repeat. The repeat had the Crystal Waters segment removed and a lame performance put in. I wonder if Hanna Barbara had a tantrum because the Crystal parody (which had slammed cable tv royally as I recall, but it's been 12 years...) featured the lyric "Yabba dabba doo"... There's no other reason for it to be canned and it was hilarious. Dunno, couldn't find anything on the net. Pity...

http://www.cryan.com/realaudio/?In%20Living%20Color - has mp3 spoofs of all the music videos (this is GREAT stuff!)

http://dancemusic.about.com/cs/interviews/a/IntCrystalWater_2.htm - interview with Crystal Waters:

DJ Ron: Do people recognize you on the street and go "la da dee la doo dow?"
Crystal: All the time, especially in places like New York or LA. But they don't sing. It's usually just the standard pictures and autographs.

DJ Ron: The In Living Color spoof - how did you feel then .. (vs now in reruns)
Crystal: It really was a good ace in the hole for my career. A great tool for me.

She liked it too! :-)

'course, season 1 is out on DVD.

So, should this Homey movie be made?

1. NOOOOOOO
It's such a bad idea. SUCH A BAD IDEA. How many times can he say "Homey don't play that" in a movie. That character was a one trick poney that was funny in a sketch comedy show.

They'd be much better off making a Fire Marshall Jim movie. Not good, but alot better. At least Jim had more variety than a single line and hitting someone over the head with a sack of knobs.

SERIOUSLY.

6. YES
Damon Wayans being the comedic genious that he is, it will probaly much more funnier and more deep then the skit. Oh and in case your interested Paul Mooney was the one who thought up the character "Homey the Clown", if you ever seen Chappelle's Show you know who I am talking about.

7. I haven't cable...
Apart from the basic channels.

:-(

I've heard about Chappelle's show and would love to see it someday. Maybe the k-word place will have an ep leaked out... who knows, if it's great I might expand my cable service.
