Knit A Uterus for Choice: Roe V Wade Protest 01/22
A dear friend told me that this is really picking up steam in the knitting community, just thought i would share:

from the punk knitters at live journal:

"knitting for choice?
So... some of my friends and I were talking about the possibility of Scalia as the new cheif justice of the supreme(ly conservative) court and my only response was:
I may as well cut out my womb and leave it on the steps of the supreme court.
Well.
Naturally it was pointed out to me that such a surgical option is unnecessary when knitty provides such a lovely and realistic knitted womb pattern:

SO...
The annual Roe V. Wade day is fast approaching and I was wondering if my fellow knitters would like to knit a womb. I live in DC, and I'm sure other SnB'ers from DC would join in the fun of dumping wombs on the court steps. I work in PR, and I could even wrestle up some media coverage if we want.

Anyone interested, or am I insane?"

1. This is a great idea
I love the idea of a pro-choice knitting party. I'll have to dust off my knitting needles. I don't think you need Peruvian wool for this thing, though. I think standard craft store yarn should do and save a few bucks.

We don't have a lot of time for this, do we? Please PM me with time you want to do this, etc.

2. I'm sorry, I am not a knitter myself.... just spreading the word for
a knitter friend who's taking part.
From what I understand, the thing is very quick to make, and a whole bunch of you knitter people are sending them to contacts in DC who will dump them on the steps of the Supreme Court.
The first link had details as well as lots of links to groups, who knows? there may be a circle in your area! good luck!

4. UPDATED SITE INFO : WOMBS ON WASHINGTON
Dearest knitters & other interested parties...

Some of you may have run across this yourselves in the past week or so, but there are some mischevious knitters planning a fiber-based assault on one of our current governments' most dangerous underpinnings -- any woman's right to rule her own body. The info on the Wombs on Washington web site is a little murky, so I'll encapsulate what I understand -- Inspired by a pattern for a knit uterus in the free online mag Knitty, a knitter thought it would be a great jumping board for an old school WAC-style action on the steps of the Supreme Court. Get as many folks from across the country as possible, have them fashion a uterus out of whatever method they feel most represented by, and pile them as high as possible in front of the doors of the Law of the Land. There's a little symbolic murkiness for me in GIVING my uterus over to anybody, but the imagery should be fabulous enough to get the right message across -- that the shift in ideology of the Supreme Court could amount to the end of our own individual control over our own bodies.

So pass this evolving URL around to knitters, crocheters, sewers & crafters of any persuasion.
