Protesters Hold 'Wal-Mart Not Welcome' Rally (MI)
Opponents Fear Supercenter Would Kill Small Businesses

POSTED: 3:44 pm EST March 22, 2005

Some Washtenaw County residents held a "Wal-Mart Not Welcome" rally on Tuesday afternoon to protest the proposed opening of a store in the area. <snip>

Organizers of the protest, which took place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., are part of a group of residents that fear the store would add traffic to the area, kill small businesses and snuff out the small-town charm of the community south of Ann Arbor. <snip>

1. Kepp it going people! U hear of at least one protest each week!
Certainly not all are like this, but there have been 2 made at council meetings here in North Ga. for 2 diff. WM's, and towns all across America are revolting aginst this behemoth!

Keep it up! The consumer has the power to either make this company change it's tactics or go out of business!

2. Our small town in Ontario rejected a Walmart
It was dismissed without any delay at all. Everyone knows what a Walmart does to economies of small towns.
So, now Walmart is in a town about 15 miles away. Still too close for my comfort.

4. Thanks, Washtenaw County!!
I saw a TV by Wal-Mart that was trying to convince people that the stores help surrounding small businesses. The best they could come up with was one guy saying 100s of people drove past his store.

Uh-huh. That's great. :eyes:
