So, here's my flag-burning idea

Is it possible to build something like an alcohol lamp that uses an American(tm) flag as a wick?

That way, it could burn continuously without being consumed.

Do they realize that if this law passes, more flags will be burned than ever before?

Especially in the time between when it passes and when it goes into effect?

I know I've never felt the need to burn an American(tm)flag before, but if it gets a passing vote, I sure will burn my fair share.

That's exactly what they want. They're goading us into it. They want a cultural split - they want it to get ugly.

They're using this as a distraction.

We ought to hand out American flags on Independence Day (at parades and such), but around the stick/handle of each flag, we should wrap/attach an explanation/synopsis of the DSM.

What is the likelihood of this passing? What kind of support is there?

no doubt in my mind. i have never seen a flag burning, and i hang out with some pretty shady characters, politicaly. i'm sure i'd see it at every protest if they passed it, though.
