how come no new actions in over a week?

I know this thing is just getting started, but we should eventually aim for the announcement of an action, then the announcement of another action BEFORE the deadline of the first, and then a third action more or less coinciding with the deadline of the first, etc. One action every other day, at least, once this gets rolling.

The previous action was announced on the 12th (Tues) with a Thurs deadline (14th) We should have another action ready when the deadline for one comes, even in the early stages, with not more than a day's delay. Maybe I am mistaken and it was much more difficult for the organizers of DUAC (DU Action Corps) to decide. But if we have two actions a week, the importance of each action becomes less, only that it not be something many of us oppose (as apparently is the case with opposing the imprisonment of Judith Miller eg). Even just a letter supporting an Amnesty International case on a Monday, something about the Supreme Creeps Tues, something about absolute poverty Weds, something about pseudo-free trade Thurs, and supporting an action comparable to the UFW on July 19 (that I recommended) Fri would be a week. Then the next week there would be something about voting and paper trails and institutionalized fraud and the opportunities for it one day, etc. At full throttle, all the issues would be covered, and there would be a great relief in finding an AI issue every week -- and just supporting that. Endorsements of other generally supported progressive actions also would take up many of the 'slots'.

For some of us, two actions per week is full throttle. I've got two and a half weeks left before summer ends and school begins, so I'd like to make my splash now. I think the DUAC assignments should come at a rate slow enough that full time working people can participate in 90-100% of these activities. When we speak, it should be with as big a voice as possible and too heavy a work load will only weed out participants in the DUAC.

Let's put the 'active' in activist!

If work comes at such a frenetic pace that you have less than full participation, then you weaken the impact of having unified actions. If you want to be active, you don't have to wait for DUAC to tell you to do something. The appeal here is to have a large number of people speaking with one voice.

If the workload is so heavy that the numbers trickle down, you lose the 1000+ strength of that voice. If you don't care about speaking en masse, then you should go ahead and do your own thing without reference to the DUAC directives.

I can't imagine there is some vast ingenious logic to the timing. They are probably just trying to evaluate the results of this action and having meetings about meetings, and all the usual stuff.

I understand that it can be slow at first, but mentioning another action couldn't be THAT difficult. They just typed out a general idea and some talking points. And we missed the July 19 UFW deadline for their boycott. (That's a way to rack up friends and allies, when you back their action with a corps of 1000). Eventually, we do enough things like that for them, they are receptive to some coalition we might put together. Politics is about doing good and doing well, and we need to show other progressives how helpful we can be.
