Young protesters: Drivers slow down (CA)

9/4/05 Young protesters for the Lompoc Boys and Girls Club, concerned for their safety, marched with signs in front of their facility at 1025 West Ocean Avenue with a simple message for motorists: Slow down!

The protesters say they face the danger of getting hit crossing the street to get to the club facility on the corner of West Ocean Avenue and North R Street.

Dena Lara, the director of the Boys and Girls Club said everyday she hears a speeding car screech to a halt in front of the facility to avoid hitting a child.

"The speed limit is 35 miles per hour and these cars are going 50 and 60 miles per hour," Lara said. "We want to draw attention to speeding."
