What do you think about this? Is there any way we could somehow choose a time to gather here on Monday night and plan a strategy for contacting all Democratic leaders on Tuesday? Members of Congress, DLC, DNC, Wes Clark, Al Gore, Rev. Sharpton, Rainbow Push, etc.
I believe with all my heart that we should DEMAND that our leaders (as many as are able) make a joint statement expressing our commitment to helping the people devastated by this catastrophe and our determination to hold accountable those government officials who failed them so completely.
I don`t give a damn about political implications, so-and-so`s home turf, whose next election might be hampered, what "friend across the aisle" might be offended, or who might get tagged "maverick" at the next political round table discussion. I don`t give a damn about any spineless Democratic Party image makers or political consultants so deep in beltway cocktail parties they don`t have time for the truth.
When we can watch a father beg for milk for his three week old infant on national television, when we can watch little children...traumatized children...stand without food or water for days on a bridge, when we see an elderly, double amputee being dragged in his wheelchair through putrid water, it`s time for a massive DU hell-raising.
That psychopath in the White House should be behind bars right now along with his shoe-shopping sidekick, his Wyoming oil minister, the Horse Guy from FEMA, Mr. "We don`t know what we don`t know" from DOD and that hideous Homeland "Security" character who claims he read about Katrina`s severity in the newspaper. This is a cabal we need not count on. What we DO need are some Democratic Party leaders with backbones stiff enough to hold them up before a microphone while they demand answers.
