Combined Attacks on Government and AFSCME Members –
Crucial House Votes Next Week!

The House rightwing leadership is at it again! Next week will see the combination of two harmful attacks on the power and scope of government. First the “Business Activity Tax Simplification Act” (H.R. 1956) is expected to be brought to a vote next Tuesday, July 25, in the full House of Representatives, to be followed by votes on Thursday, July 27, on two “sunset commission” bills that are back door attacks on Social Security and would also lead to the termination of programs that fund state activities (H.R. 5766 and H.R. 3282). Both the tax bill and the sunset bills substantially harm the power of the states and threaten federal programs that are important to the states and AFSCME members.

URGENT!
AFSCME LEADERS AND ACTIVISTS:
Please call your representatives at 1-888-460-0813. Tell them you are strongly opposed to H.R. 1956 and to H.R. 5766 and H.R. 3282. Tell them you oppose these bills because they unfairly harm the government’s ability to deliver vital public services to millions of Americans.
