Taking a bus to Washington - what do I take?
I have been protesting weekly at home but I have never done the bus ride to DC. I really don't know what to take. It's a 24 hour ride from what I've been told.
My list so far is
$.99 poncho
gloves
jacket that I can layer
book on tape
disposable hand warmers
neck pillow
disposable camara
shirts, underwear, socks
comfortable shoes
My DU axis of evil sweatshirt

What am I missing?

1. Good list..

You might consider toothbrush, kleenex, pocket change for vending machines, munchies--but overall you have a good list. Also a good map of the DC Mall area--. Hope you don't need the poncho.

The buses I've taken from Michigan usually make a few stops at Ohio or PA turnpike rest areas where there is fast food--and at Breezewood,PA at some place where they give bus drivers free meals to entice them to stop for refueling. The place in Breezewood has cafeteria dining--reviews vary..

Lastly the last two ANSWER charter buses I was on had VCR's and monitors on board. A lot of us wished we had brought a movie!! But then deciding on mass appeal would be interesting.

On edit--SUNSCREEN OR A HAT!! I usually forget the sunscreen--don't like to feel greasy--and get fried on one side at the rally listening to all the speeches.

3. Why?
They are not going to arrest us just for being there.

7. food, water, comfortable shoes....thanks for coming...
...we have lots of lawyers here in DC, volunteering to help...just don't break things, because people live here too...there will be legal monitors throughout the march, with cellphones, and watching the cops carefully for legal correctness...

here's the legal group
http://www.justiceonline.org/

some helpful hints from the ANSWER web page.....DON'T FORGET TO BRING PROTEST SIGNS, BUCKETS/WHISTLES/POOR PEOPLE'S INSTRUMENTS, COSTUMES, STREET THEATER...MASKS...

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING

Bring snacks and water, and wear comfortable shoes since you'll be standing and walking for several hours. If you've been to an A.N.S.W.E.R. protest before and have an "Act Now to Stop War & End Racism," t-shirt wear it to the protest!

FOOD

There are a number of restaurants and coffee shops in the area that cater to the tourists who are downtown on the weekends. There are vendors in the area of the White House with snack food, ice cream, soda, etc. People are encouraged to bring snacks or a lunch with them because it will be a long day.
