What is the motivation?
Edited on Sat Jan-17-09 07:51 AM by callchet
I don't understand this and an explanation would really help me understand a lot of other concerns like the failing Universal Health Care. Why do activists like Captain Paul Watson not work for the people of Darfur,Sudan or the Congo. I don't have any resources to do anything right now other than rant on here. All I do is give whatever extra money I have to the homeless at street corners. And I am not criticizing him. I am not doing anything for Darfur. I just wonder why he picks whales over people. Granted and understood he is doing more than I am. Maybe this will help me understand why we can't pass Universal Health Care. I think the people fighting against UHC are saying " I wish you were dead to the poor '.

1. Good Question
There are a few things. First, he started his environmental activism in 1969, that was a long time ago when Africa was not that important. He was a good environmentalist and a seemed like a good human being.

We can pass universal health care if we get some Progressives with spines in congress. We have very few! The American people want universal health care so why don't we pass it? Because it would be swatted down like a fly because we have "Conservatives without Conscience" and spineless Democrats. If we has more strong progressives, like Kucinich and Feingold, we could pass it. If you disagree with your Congressman/woman on any issue, run against them in the primaries or in the general! If you have the right people, the right info, and the right emotion, you could have a chance

2. HOW TO MOTIVATE PEOPLE
In over a quarter of a century of playing football, I had a lot of people – coaches, teammates, friends – try to get me “up” for a particular game or stretch of games. There was one person who did that better than anybody else – Bud Grant. Bud was the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, for whom I quarterbacked for much of my professional career, and he was successful in getting the best out of his people because he understood one fundamental rule of human nature: If you want somebody to do something for you, the one thing you cannot do, ever, is BS him.

Not once in all my years of playing for Bud did I ever see him hand a player a bill of goods. From the very first day that you walked into a Vikings practice, you knew that this man was telling it like it was. You didn’t get any phony rah-rah pep talks and you didn’t get any of that “We’re number one” garbage, and you didn’t get him threatening, or cajoling, or insulting you into better performance. With Bud Grant you knew right off that there were certain things that were going to be expected of you. You knew you’d have to deliver those things if you wanted to stay with the Vikings. And you knew that if you didn’t deliver, you’d soon be back picking watermelons in rural Georgia.
