1. If it goes back to health CARE reform, I'm there. But not for insurance reform. They don't need the
money, and as it stands, they're gonna be the only winners in this.

2. Ah...another voice of sanity. Thank you.
I have been typing about the false choice of insurance reform for months.
Lot of dear people out there, tho.

5. I'm sure most DUers know this, but that should mean we are more determined to make a big noise for
actual, significant reform.

Why are we just lying down for this?

3. Get. Off. Your. Asses!
I've called for this twice on DU within the last month. Same response each time: (crickets).

Small local demonstrations won't get coverage. 100,000 people(or more)on the Mall in mid-September could not be ignored. I'll bet Dr. Dean would speak and I'm sure some "name" talent could be rounded up on short notice.

But, what the hell? The insurance companies will surely do the right thing, right? The Blue Dogs will see the light, right? No need to actually leave our bad-ass keyboards. Why, if Congress doesn't stand up for the people, we'll just bitch and moan on-line!
That'll show 'em!

4. Exactly! WTF!? I wish those who see this thread would comment, whether they agree with the idea
or not. It's really disappointing that among the most progressive group of people I know, this idea fails to get much more than, as you said, crickets.

And yes, it would need to be a show of support for *real* health *care* reform. I say march for single payer and let them bargain down from there.

Yes, it would have to be huge, but why can't we make that happen?

9. march on
If we can get a half a million we'll get something done. I've saved some time for September, but you have to have big numbers to scare the always corrupt US senate. This might be the last chance in my lifetime, because if the senate gets its way we'll just be stuck with a bunch of crap for at least ten years with no hope of changing it because it will please the health insurance companies and the republicans and loll most of the rest into believing they did something. We need to mobilize everything now and go for it. After 40 years I am out of patience.

10. Single Payer Marches
This is going to happen. Keep the message simple. Everyone in our country needs to receive health care...it's just as important, if not more important, than education.
We, as a nation, value education so much that we have established a public system to provide it and to enforce it's attendance; 100% of us are required to go, 100% of us are provided for...it's the law.
In the same way that we've established a public school system, we will establish a public health care system.
A system that most closely embodies the basic human sensibility regarding the importance of health and of caring for each other, is the one that will succeed the best, on all levels.
Keep it simple. one Unified Health Care System.
There are wonderful private schools out there for those that have the resources and desire to attend, for one class, or for the entire curriculum.
I am confident that private enterprise will offer health care services; no bill is needed to bring them into existence. They will offer additional choices, selections that we can partake of, if we choose, without loosing access to the public system. These private companies can choose to contract with insurance companies, or not!
We don't need a cumbersome bill centered on reform of the current system of providers that includes a public "option" for some BUT NOT ALL of the people. We need a bill creating a uniform, single payer system (and the bill could include reforming regulations for the current private sector).
The public system should be the mandate; private services the "Option".

As to the marches: 1) Get parade permits, working with cities all over the nation. This will allow us to use streets blocked off just for the events and give us the local police guidance-to-everyone that we will want. I'm sure there are local ordinances to be in compliance with...like toilet facilities, I hope?
2) Release the place, date and time to the media.

Remember, everyone, rich or poor gets mandatory access to the public system, It's the right thing to do!

11. I am all about it.
Someone organize the date and you can count me in.

ESPECIALLY if the demand is "Single payer or we'll burn your house down" as suggested above.

13. With the teensy bit of support this idea has received here at DU, I hardly have hope that it could
be the massive march we need. What a disappointment.

So how do we start to organize? Does anyone know of plans for a march on Washington, or any groups that we could contact to get this started?

16. So far, nothing. And we would need the larger groups to organize such a massive march. What if we
contact them to prompt them?

HealthCareNow.Org
Moveon.org

Who else?

Edited on Tue Aug-18-09 01:37 AM by kster
(A) a Public Option make my family and friends better off? And (B) How does Single Payer health care, where everyone has health care make my family and friends better off?

The Politicians need to answer these two questions if they truly want what is best for us.

Let's march from the left coast to DC!! Like carrying the Olympic torch. I heard Glenn Beck is organizing a March on the Mall for Sept 12. Right wingers can not outdo us on history. The lies they spiel should never make it into written historical accounts.
