My Senators reject my e-mail activism
From like moveon.org and SUWA.org and other liberal organizations I get pleas to send emails to my senators (both right-wing Rethugs).

Recently, both of them emailed me back saying that they couldn't accept my email because they get so much spam, and if I wanted to contact them, I had to go to their web site.

Is anyone else getting this kind of runaround?

1. Yes
I emailed Feinstein and was also directed to a web mail form. I've seen this with radio stations too that are worried about spam and viruses.

3. the spam and virus thing may be part of it ... but, I think 'control'
may be a factor, too

a general observation ... that the more Kennedy, Leahy type Dems have regular email, as well as the embedded online forms ... the regular email like we use, which is more user-friendly way of contacting them, and is, also, flexible for cc'ing other Senators who may be appropriate and interested in the subject ... the more DINO types go to the embedded format entirely ...

4. and there's always the good old USPS
the postal service!
make it as personal as possible, i had a legislative staffer tell me, and it will have a longer shelf life (i mean, in people's hands) than other written forms of communications.
a hand-written address, for example, means a letter that will be read and passed around if you're a decent letter-writer...
good luck.
inundate the bastards!

5. Yes, but Conrad (D-ND) changed his mind
I wrong him a long e-mail before the cut-off date, asking if--just to be fair--he was going to stop accepting faxes, and if we was just going to bundle up all the preprinted postcards he gets and through them in the trash as well.

I couched it as a fairness issue, based on my having worked on the Hill for almost eight years and knowing the sort of phone/fax/snail mail activists campaigns they receive.

He relected and will continue to accept e-mails.

It's really a cop-out to blame spam. The tools are out there to block most of it if one wishes to implement them.

6. You rule, markus
I took my senators to task as well, but I'm sure it won't faze them as they are pure re-pyukes.

I know a hand-written letter is more impressive since the recipients know that it's so easy to send emails, but my output would suffer commensurately.

I guess I'll have to bookmark their feedback pages, and use auto-form-fill or whatever that feature is called, with the default setting for the comment field set to "you suck!"

8. I get letters from my rep.
Waxman - helluva guy. He's written back to me (and, I assume, others who write on the same subject, in a semi-form letter manner) about ten times.

Good to know someone makes an effort to care about his constituents.
