Remember the AIDS quilt?
My mom is leading a group of creative Vermonters who are using folk art to channel their despair about the doings of the Bush regime into The Chronicle Quilt of Outrage and Hope.

Their goal is to get people in every state in the country to send them quilt squares. There's no sewing or artistic ability required, just write your message on a piece of muslin and send it in. They'll do the rest.

So far the quilt has been displayed at peace marches, Dean meet-ups, colleges, etc. Howard Zinn has sent in squares, and they're hoping for more, lots more, from people of all walks of life.

Get some friends together for a night of red wine and quilt square writing, it's very cathartic!

2. yes!
Thanks for the response Rainbowreflect, and please do try your hand, it would make my mom so happy for DU'ers to get involved.

A couple of months ago we invited some friends for dinner and then as an after-dinner activity we did quilt squares. All we needed were some black sharpies, muslin squares, DU to check for facts and the most recent outrages, and of course some wine and chocolate. It really was fun and felt better than just the usual verbal venting.

And it's not just that it's being done by my mom, it's really a great project!
