Keep your DOJ on a leash: Support the Patients' Privacy Protection Act
The bill is intended to stop the Bush administration’s aggressive campaign to insert the government where it doesn’t belong: in your doctor’s office. In an effort to defend the federal abortion ban that Bush signed into law in November 2003, the Justice Department subpoenaed medical records from hospitals across the country, targeting thousands of women who had an abortion and the doctors who performed them. Ashcroft justified his actions by arguing that “Individuals no longer possess a reasonable expectation their histories will remain completely confidential.”
