Kucinich walks to the beat of a different drummer

Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich walked into the Algona Public Library, and immediately made note of the paintings of dancers hanging on the walls.

"What if government had the balance of ballet? What if it had the grace?" Kucinich asked the crowd of about 30 people gathered to hear him speak on Friday, Dec. 19.

"What we have now is a very heavy-handed approach to government. Like an elephant in a tutu, but this elephant is on a rampage."

Despite being one of the lesser-known Democrats making a run for the presidential nomination, the 57-year Cleveland native believes he is the "wake up call" that the United States needs in the role of president.

"My presidency is about a whole different approach to government," Kucinich said.

<snip>

"I know what it's like to take a stand," he said. "I'm someone people will be able to relate to."

An "elephant in a tutu!" Gotta love it.

I support Dennis because I do want a whole different approach to government. I do want my president to take a stand. I do want to see balance and reason prevail in our government.

1. Kucinich is like a breath of fresh air
I've liked him just from his platform and I only knew him from the internet before I watched him in the most recent debate. I was very impressed with what he had to say and he had me laughing and wooping when put Koppel in his place. I feel very good about voting for him in the primary. Now if we could just get more people to feel that way.

2. I'm currently reading a book called the Middle Mind
and while I'm only a few dozen pages into it, the author seems to be saying that we need to transform our reality by looking at it in unconventional ways instead of just accepting what business and the commercial media present to us.

Kucinich seems to embody that spirit of "thinking different."

3. He does.
I come to the table already thinking differently, not having been indoctrinated by anyone at all in my out-of-the-norm lifetime. I think that's why Dennis resonates with me. Do you mean the book about why Americans don't think for themselves?

4. Kucinich has good taste.
Marches to the same drummer as I.

Seriously, only a person who can think outside of the box and be practical at the same time could have come up with a workable Middle East peace plan that doesn't decimate one side or another, and a plan to get us all health care without blowing the nation's budget.

Original thinker.

5. Good points.
My son's favorite xmas gift this year was a tshirt I gave him; it has a picture of Rodan's "The Thinker" with the line: "I think, therefore I'm dangerous."

Thinking outside the box, like coloring outside the lines, just isn't done too often these days. As for me, I never found a box I could fit in. And I want a president who can think for himself, and who can see and think outside the lines.

6. coloring outside the lines...
A difficult excercise in free thinking for most adults in the world. My kids thought it was the coolest thing I ever said- "New rule, no coloring INSIDE the lines allowed!" Of course my kids are slick- they found a way to circumvent the rule, working from the outside of the picture inwards! LMAO We got some killer artwork from it, though! I can see Dennis giving the same instructions to kids just for kicks and to see what they do with it. He thinks like me, and I was fascinated by the way their little minds dealt with the situation.

7. It is a difficult exercise.
Here's another. Really!

I have my students do a lot of their work on unlined paper. It drives them crazy. I do it for a couple of reasons.

When you aren't following the lines, you actually have to interact with the space on the page to keep your writing neat and legible. It always surprises me how little concept of space my students have. Which can make art and geometry frustrating.

Unlined newsprint is cheap; it sure helps that almost non-existant paper budget!

The BFEE is the problem - Kucinich is the answer.
