Help a Democrat in KY (Ben Chandler)
Edited on Fri Jan-16-04 12:00 PM by pezcore64
Ben Chandler, who ran for governor last year, is now in need of some financial contributions after Mitch McConnell came back to KY and did some fundraising for Chandlers opponent. Any help that fellow democrats could provide would be lovely!
Ben has officially endorsed Clark if thatll help any ones decision ;)

Heres a Link to contribute!

5. Does anyone know how conservative he is?
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 05:48 PM by NewJerseyDem
I agree that we should support him 100%. We can hardly expect to have a very liberal congressman from this district but are his views on abortion, gun control, the environment, taxes and other issues known? Or will we just have to wait until he gets elected and we can see his voting record?

EDIT: His website says that he is against gun control and has an "A" rating from the NRA. But, it doesn't really mention his views on the other issues.

6. From his website
Second Amendment Rights
A strong supporter of Second Amendment rights, Ben Chandler has earned an "A" rating from the NRA. In Congress, Chandler will defend the rights of central Kentucky's sportsmen by opposing new gun control laws.

Tobacco
As Attorney General, Ben Chandler helped Kentucky tobacco farmers secure billions in settlement funds to help resolve growing issues. In Congress, Chandler will use that experience to stand up against cuts in the tobacco quota and work to pass a tobacco buyout bill that delivers on the unmet promise to central Kentucky farmers.

The War on Terrorism and Homeland Security
Ben Chandler strongly supports the men and women bravely serving our country in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world. In Congress, Ben Chandler will stand vigilant in his support for a strong national defense, an end to international terrorism, and a safe and secure homeland.

A bluedog for sure, but he's good on issues like middle-income tax cuts, perscription drugs and strong public education. There is no mention of a stance on hot button issues like abortion, gay rights, and prayer in schools.

7. my guess is he has the kind of "moderate" stances on them
you know, keep abortion legal but ban "partial birth", no gay marriage but ban discrimination, allow a moment of silence instead of prayer, ect. which is really the best we can get from there.

8. ....
Id hafta agree with that. Definitely a moderate. no doubt about that. Ya kinda gotta be in kentucky.
All i know is, one more democrat in the house cant be bad. atleast hes open to our suggestions even if he isnt dead in line with certain personal beliefs.
ya gotta start somewhere ;)

Besides, I dont think hes to bad of a guy. Ive met him before, didnt seem like an arsehole. lol
