Collins, Isakson praise Bush, spar with each other on issues
The Associated Press - WASHINGTON

On a night laced with political agendas, President Bush and his Democratic foes offered contrasting assessments of the state of the union, while two Georgia Senate candidates clashed with each other on some specifics.

U.S. Reps. Mac Collins and Johnny Isakson, Republicans facing off July 20 for their partys Senate nomination, disputed a few of each others policy stances Tuesday even while praising the agenda Bush laid out in his annual speech to Congress.

Collins complained Bushs No Child Left Behind education bill, which Isakson helped write as a member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, had placed too many restrictions on local school districts.

Its just too stringent, causing too many problems and not working as it should, Collins said. We want to educate our children, and we dont want to hamstring our educators.
