Calif. GOP Senate Primary Is Overshadowed

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - California Republicans have made finding a strong challenger to Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer a priority for more than a year, but the primary is on Tuesday and voter interest in the four contenders for the GOP nomination is less than robust.

The choice appears to be between "sacrificial lambs," as one analyst put it.

Overshadowed by the gubernatorial recall in October and the presidential election, the GOP Senate primary pits former Secretary of State Bill Jones against attorney and former Assemblyman Howard Kaloogian, businesswoman Toni Casey and former U.S. Treasurer Rosario Marin.

"The only question on this ballot is which of these candidates do want to lose to Boxer," quipped Jack Pitney, government professor at Claremont McKenna College. "It's a choice among sacrificial lambs — that's all."

that's good - it might keep Republicans at home ...

but, I wouldn't trust them ... whoever they choose will be someone they certainly could live with ...

This translates into several things. First, that's one senate seat we can count on. Second, it means that GOP turnout will be demoralized in CA, which means our nominee for president wins more easily. (BTW, last polls showed a Kerry-Edwards ticket beating the CHimp by ~12%.) Third, it means that we can get away with spending less money overall in California - which means more money can go to OR, WA, NV, AZ, & NM.

Great news. Anyone trying to claim that Ahhhhnold was a sign of things to come is blowing smoke out of his/her ass.
