Rate the Candidates in order you support them:
To me, it seems like Kerry is everyone's second fav candidate. I think this can be good as candidates drop out of the race.

What order to you place your support for candidates. List like this:

(Clark)
(Gore)
(Hillary)
Kerry
Lieberman
Gephardt
Graham
Edwards
Kucinich
Braun
Sharpton
(any other Democrat)
Dean

I only did the declared candidates -- I do like Gen. Clark, and 2000 was the very first election I was of age to vote in, so I do have a special place in my heart for Al Gore -- but, I'd rather see him run in 2008, should we lose the next pres. election. I don't really want a rehash of 2000.

10. Dean and Kerry at the top...
...I haven't made up my mind--waiting to see how it plays out. Like Dean better, am somewhat disappointed in kerry, but think he'd play better on a national basis.

As for the others: can't really rate them. Holy Joe is on the bottom, Richard "I can't win a mjority in the House, but I will run for president anyway" is next to the bottom. Really don't think the others have a chance--truly--no one is catching on.

Can't rate Clark--don't think he will ever run. Neither will Al or Hilary.

28. He was electable because he appealed to people.
Also, the Republicans have a lock on sheep mentality.

Appeal is part of electability. For some reason, GWB appealed to people. Enough to statistically tie him with the person who was most qualified, smarter, and better equipped to do the job.

And if I used the same reasoning thwat I used in the past, I would have chosen Dean. Not again. No more losers. Iam tired of popularity contests run by glib talkers who's record oes not even faintly resemble their career.

Kerry
Kucinich
Clinton
Gore
Clark
Sharpton
Graham
Edwards
Gephardt
Lieberman
Mosely Braun

If Dean wins the nomination, I will either vote Green, or not at all.

I know a great number of people who feel the same way about Dean.
That he is and has been willing to tell any lie, to misrepresent anything, and to cover his own past in order to get votes.

I for one beleive that the Vermont Republicans are correct and that Dean shoiuld be forced to open his gobernatorial records.

13. Quite simple
First: Dean or Kerry or Edwards or Kucinich or Braun or Gephardt or Sharpton or Graham... pretty much anyone who gets nominated.

Second: a block of cheddar cheese.

Last: Lieberman. I can overlook the faults of everyone else, but I just can't seem to get past this man's lip prints all over Bush's behind. If he gets the nomination, I honest to God have no idea what I'm going to do. It will be time for serious soul searching. I so desperately want a fighter to represent me and it would be tremendously disheartening if I don't get that for 2004.

But seriously, if I had to pick one, today, I'd pick Dean.

27. Edwards/(Gore) top(s) my list...
1/2-Edwards/(Gore)--I'd be conflicted here, would become somewhat undecided if Gore came back. If there was any justice, Gore/Edwards would have been in the WH with Edwards/Ford set up for 2008.

3-(Clark)

A big gap ensues, then:
4/5-Kerry/Dean--I don't know. Personally, I prefer Kerry. Election wise, I don't know.

6-Graham

7-Gep

8-DK

Then everyone else. If purely on who I *like*, DK jumps to #2, Dean moves down to #6 and Moseley-Braun moves somewhere in the middle.

If either one of those became president, this world would be in great shape within a few years.

Edwards, Gephardt, and Graham are all quite competent, too.

Braun (adore her) I won't rate, because I truly believe she is in there willingly for DNC purposes of balanced dialogue, and will likely be part of the eventual cabinet or a top ambassor.

Do you really think a Dept. of Peace is a good idea? What happens when a Republican eventually takes office? Won't it just be one more resource for a President Wolfowitz or whoever to suppress Palestinian rights and resistance to corporate hegemony?
Do you agree that burning the American flag should be criminalized? Are you satisfied with his positioning on abortion?

IMO, it won't allow a Repub to do anything he can't already do, and it could really help the world.

Not only do I agree with Kucinich on abortion, but I went through the same process-against it reluctantly to for it reluctantly.

54. A few reasons.
I see Graham as a centrist who can still get leftists to vote for him, so he can get the base and attract swing voters. Also, Florida is HUGE in elections now, with 27 eV's and being basically evenly split between dems and pubs, and Graham has, IMO, the best chance of any of our candidates to take that state.

He's not my favorite candidate personally, a little too conservative for my tastes, but I see him as having the best chance to win. If Clark declares, though, that may change.

56. Do you think that maybe Florida will vote Democratic anyway?
I have moved away from Graham being on the ticket, not because I don't like him because I do, but I think the Military vote will swing away from Bush in 2004 and the Hispanic vote will be larger this time around. I would tend to think from a electoral perceptive we can already take Flordia and we should choose another Southern to take even more electoral votes, or someone from the West to help the Senate and House seat on that side. Mike Warner, Governor or Virginia would carry Virginia, and West Virginia which have a total of 18 electoral voters. If Clark was nominated that would bring in 24, and we bring Flordia anyway, that 27, so total that would 51 more electoral votes that Bush had before that now go to the Democrats.

Then Kerry maybe Edwards (though I've never seen him at the debates)

I like really Kucinich, but I think he needs to stay in the house, we're getting worked over in the house.

If Lieberman gets in I'm going back to the green party and moving out of the country.

69. Kucnich, Gore, then other Democrats. Not Dean at this point
Dean's views on criminal justice fit right in with those of the KKK members who used to string people up without trials. We need someone who respects the fact that in America a person is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Dean's support of the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Dumping site shows that killing off millions of California children isn't a big deal to him. I would not enjoy voting for Edwards or Graham because of their votes in support of the Yucca Mountain Nuclear dumping site. However, I believe I could support about any Democrat but Dean.

89. I can't go with Dean, either
His supporters are condescending and mean. I don't care if they think it's hardball politics to attack someone for pointing out differences between the candidates, all they're doing is alienating likely voters.

A substantial number of people will not vote for Dean, even if he somehow becomes the nominee. He's not good for labor, not good for social security, not especially good for the environment, and his supporters either tell you to "do your homework" or act all patronizing if you ask questions about "their" candidate.

No, thanks.

Graham (I think he's the most "electable", not the most reflective of my views.)
Dean
Kerry
Clark ?
Kucinich ( He's the most reflective of most of my views, but sadly unelectable)
other Democrat
Edwards

Lieberman/Gephardt (I'd REALLY have to hold my nose for these two)
Braun/Sharpton (don't have a chance and its not because of their skin color)

President Gore was my first choice when I thought he was running, he no longer is and the pravda press would eat him alive (again) if he jumps back into the race.
Hillary is not running and I can't come up with a electoral scenario where she could become President.

82. Ooh, I have lots of lists:
Most likely to win primaries, declared only:

Dean/Kerry (yeah, wussing out, but this looks like the big battle)
Graham (assuming he finally gets some mo')
Gephardt
Edwards
Lieberman
Braun/Kucinich/Sharpton

Most likely to win primaries, including undeclared:

(Clark)/Dean/Kerry (it will be madness...but with luck, informative)
Gephardt
Graham
Edwards/Kucinich
Lieberman
(Biden) (Dude. Don't. Please)
Braun/Sharpton

Hillary and Gore won't run, unless Dean starts growing tentacles out of his head and someone can prove he's mind-controlled 35% of the Democratic Party.

Most likely to win the generals/"electabiliy" (everyone who I think will run):

Clark
Graham
Kerry/Edwards
Lieberman/Dean/Gephardt
Biden
Braun/Sharpton
Kucinich

Personal preference (everyone who I think will run):

Clark/Dean/Kerry
Graham/Kucinich
Braun/Edwards/Sharpton
Lieberman
Gephardt
Biden

Graham -- love the man's positions on Iraq but afraid he will be painted as a weird-ass OCD type because of the notebooks.

Moseley-Braun (damn, why can't that girl get her act together and make herself a white man so we can elect her ass? That woman talk some sense dude born before her time, and if you ask me with the wrong equipment, someone GIT that woman some RESPECT. She does talk a mighty fine line. I say some dude with BALLS could give her a VP slot. She is mighty fine and one of the BEST debaters.)

Edwards (grow up some, stop CARPETBAGGING on your poor mom and dad so much and then we might listen to you. We're tired of hearing about your daddy-this etc., when you ain't got nothing to back it up with your Breck hair-Lawyer self.)

Al Sharpton (more and more I agree with whomever said you should be the next press secretary. If you can stand working for some honky, as it is likely to be, come on, Rev, you can do a lot with a bully pulpit and sure as heck spin with the best of them!)

Gephardt (Dick, must you?)

I know who all nine are, I choose to leave JL and DK out. I won't even consider them.

100. Here's mine
1) Kerry
Agree w/ him on the issues, impressed w/ his grasp, his experience, his maturity, and his instincts, good resume -- all in all I think he'd make a very compelling nominee and a great president. Really significantly, I think that, better than anybody else, he'll unite the party -- he's acceptable to both left and center and even to labor, which is more fickle.

2) Edwards
Somewhat more centrist than I am, but good populist ring, a great appeal to middle-class swing voters and rural, conservative voters w/ a soft spot for populism, and a good ability to connect. Great personal story and, after Kerry, he's the next best at uniting the party. His national security and foreign policy fracas are thin though.

3) Gephardt
Extremely bold, visionary platform -- I have some doubts about how it will work, but it's caught my attention and I'm willing to give it thought. He's experienced and knows the issues. His views on trade make me a little nervous -- he's a tad too protectionist for my tastes, but I'd take him over Bush any day.

3) Dean (tie)
Good views on the issues, very close to him on most domestic issues. I love his blunt style and willingness to attack the admin. His lack of gravitas and his foreign policy views dampen the enthusiasm, though. Though I opposed the war, Dean's foreign policy posturing strikes me as immature and knee-jerk, rather than really thought-out and pragmatic (just my view). I also worry abt how well the first couple years will go -- outsider presidencies can be over-rated. Remember Clinton's first two years or Carter's entire term?

5) Lieberman
For all the bum rap he gets on this site, I'd be more than willing to support a Lieberman campaign should he be the nominee. In truth, his platform does not strike me as remotely bad -- I actually really like aspects of it, like his anti-poverty plan, the idea for a national center for cures, investments in broadband and reviving manufacturing, plus his energy plan. That said, he can't unite us well -- his candidacy would cause many on the left to stay home and would also spawn a very strong Nader or Green candidacy which would hurt what otherwise would be a strong challenge to Bush. Plus, Lieberman wouldnt' be able to draw in new voters or excite people. As for me, I'm a fair deal to the left of him, and I wasn't exactly enthused abt his support for the war -- at the very least I would've liked an approach that stressed more international cooperation and multilateralism.

6) Graham
I respect him, and his view on Iraq as a security threat were right-on. However, he has done little to excite me. Electorally he may be good, but that has yet to be proven. He excites even fewer people than Lieberman does and he has no platform! Where are his proposals, his policies, his programs? Hopefully they'll come, and maybe when they do, I'll revisit his ranking, but he's struck out as a major contender for me.

The rest are all ranked the same - tied for 7th. I think all -- Kucinich, Moseley-Braun, and Sharpton would make terrible presidents, not b/c of bad intentions, but out of sheer incompetence and impossibility. I don't think any of them would be able to get anything passed and would cause a great deal of damage to the country. I DO greatly respect Kucinich -- as a congressman -- we need voices like him to add to the debate on capitol hill. President Kucinich doesn't cut it though. Sorry, that's just my opinion.

However, if by some fluke one of these 3 were the nominee, I would vote for them -- if only as a protest vote against Bush.

If Clark wants to step in fine by me... I'll determine my support then. Till then I've got my candidate.

Why Dean Can Not Win the General Election
1) He is known for his Civil Unions bill. He is tagged permently by the right and media as being someone that is going to give gays equal rights. This is a real fear amoung many conservatives and moderates in the Southern and Western States. He will never be able to shake the pro-gay label and will lose 2 votes for every one he gets in key moderate states.
