I mean, we always hear about how John McCain had so much courage as a POW in Vietnam ... how he had the courage to pass up coming home and ending his torture (at least, by the old definitions of torture) so that people who had been POWs longer should go home ...
So, what happened to that courage?
Sure, he had the courage to stand up to the President, when he thought that the President's fiscal policy would bankrupt this country and cause deep deficits. But that President was a Democrat, and the fiscal policy didn't cause deep deficits nor bankrupt the country. Quite the opposite. We saw some of the best financial times of our lives, and for the first time in most of our memories, a surplus ...
He didn't have the courage to stand up against his own party when their front man had dragged his POW status through the mud and called him a Manchurian candidate, and claimed he had fathered an illegitimate black child. In fact, he supported him.
Yes, he did show some slight, timid courage, standing up against Bush's tax cuts ... but only when he knew that it would pass anyway. But you never really hear about that, because he didn't have the courage to back up those words then ...
And now, years after he had a little bit of courage (and not running for President) in calling the Religious Right nutjobs what they are, he's cozying up to them and currying their favor ... now a few of them have the brains to not cozy back ... but just wait ... they'll play "Brokeback Mountain" when he promises them more and more taxpayer dollars for their pockets ...
So, where's the courage? Or is John McCain just a tired, scared old man who thinks that it's his turn to be President?
