New Report: Anti-Immigrant Movement has Failed
Cross-posted at Daily Kos:

Some good news.

The Progressive States Network has a new report showing that racist groups like FAIR and Repugs like Tom Tancredo have effectively failed at making immigration the wedge issue they wish it was.

The report notes that the anti-immigration hype is mostly from a small but vocal minority of vigilantes who have a loud voice in Washington who haven't really gotten anything done besides making a stink during elections.

This is great news for all progressives, but is also really encouraging for the group I'm working with, America's Voice. We're pushing for comprehensive immigration reform -- That includes an overhaul of our system so that anyone can come here an live the American dream.

The report found that most people agree with America's Voice's position and that people recognize that a lot of immigrants are scapegoated. I've seen some similar polling from Simon Rosenberg and Joe Garcia at NDN.

I think this gives progressives and the Democratic Congress a green light to get moving on comprehensive immigration reform -- It's something that Teddy Kennedy has been a champion of and I think we ought to fight with him. I think that is a winning POLICY, but it's also winning POLITICS. If you're with me, check out AmericasVoiceOnline.org today.
