Vince4Congress press release out tonight -- It's official!
Edited on Tue Aug-12-03 03:20 PM by eyesroll
This is going out tonight, with the campaign phone number. Oh, and if anyone in Jefferson/Dodge is coming to the picnic, let me know so we can meet!

VINCE WHITACRE ANNOUNCES CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDACY
Waukesha Democrat to run in Wisconsin's Fifth District

WAUKESHA - Local Democrat Vince Whitacre announces his
intention to seek the party's nomination for U.S. House of Representatives in Wisconsin's Fifth District, a seat currently held by Republican F. James Sensenbrenner.

"It's time for us to expect more from our elected officials," says Whitacre. "It's time we demand accountability. This is our country, and we can no longer stand idly by while it's being sold off to the highest bidder.

"If you join with me, we can once again fulfill the promise of a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, from sea to shining sea."

Whitacre, a quality assurance analyst with Metavante Corp. in Brown Deer and a graduate of Beloit College, soon will file a Statement of Candidacy with the Federal Election Commission.

Whitacre will be making an appearance at the Jefferson-Dodge Democratic Party Picnic Wednesday, Aug. 13 at Dorothy Carnes Park in Jefferson County. The picnic is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.

The Fifth District encompasses Washington, Ozaukee andparts of Jefferson, Waukesha and Milwaukee counties. The Democratic primary election will be held in September of 2004.

4. Thanks, rabid_nerd...We've had trouble with the pic...
It looked fine on the home computer and scary (specifically, dark) once it got uploaded. I plan to play with it a little tomorrow.

We should have some decent outdoor/candid shots within the next couple of days to add to the site as well.

6. Any help you're willing to give
is appreciated...We're on a very grassroots budget, so we're going to rely heavily on donor labor, especially at the beginning. If you've got a specific skill or desire to do something, PM me or send Vince a note on his site (we've got a volunteer form up). Otherwise, I'll probably be posting calls here if we need something specifically.

Thanks to you up in (Petri?) land.

8. WI is kind of nerve-jangling that way...
Primary's in September. Short general election campaign. Call it the incumbency protection act, I guess.
We can't get signatures until June of next year.
We have 5 weeks to get 1,000 to 2,000 signatures (I have no idea whether that means they stop counting at 2,000, or we can turn in a maximum of 2,000 and hope 1,000 qualify).

Thanks, AWD!

10. 1,000-2,000????
You're going to hate me.

I needed 50 signatures. Maximum of 150.

If your laws are anything like ours, do NOT go over 2,000. They disqualify you if you go over the maximum. Look into it.
