Kerry/McCain?
I read this at the Kerry blog. What do you think? I know nothing about McCain. What sort of Republican is he?

4. it won't happen
He and McCain are good friends but publically McCain will loyally support Bush but inside the voting booth I wouldn't doubt he would vote for Kerry if Kerry is nominated.

5. McCain is a Rethuglican through and through
Although he despises the Bush team, and rightly so, he will never run as a Democrat, nor should he. His votes are mainly arch-conservative ones, and he'd hadd little to the ticket beyond the glee of the DLC.

Kerry/Edwards is a more viable ticket, as is Dean/Edwards. People in the heartland will always think a southerner is conservative, although Edwards is not a DLC Rethuglican-lite.

Either ticket would have a real chance against the Bush machine, dirty tricks and all. So far their best tactic is to paint both men as wild-eyed leftist communist freaks, something which can be countered very easily by pointing out the reality of the situation.

In any case, it's ANYBODY but BUSH!

6. Not only is McCain a genuine repuke,
think of the slap such a choice would be to other Dem candidates. And how would Kerry get the convention to select McCain. McCain doesn't even make it to being a bad dream.

7. VP's Don't Decide Policy
I think a Kerry/McCain ticket would rock politics as we know it. How many times have people crossed lines to go to the White House?

8. Lincoln...
and look how Andrew Johnson turned out!! ;)

I don't like that ticket one bit. We need more Dem unity not half Dem half repug at this point. Also McCain would be the tiebreaker in the Sentate (sure to be a close one again). So he could just side with the R's during a critical vote.

10. McCain in a Democratic Cabinet, Perhaps...
I could conceive of McCain serving in any Democratic nominee's cabinet. (It's traditional to have a member of the opposition party in your cabinet. Norm Mineta at D.O.T. is the current example.) Although there'd be a senatorial replacement problem, since Arizona's governor is a Democrat. (She'd have to appoint a Republican, otherwise there'd be howling.)

11. Several points
First off, McCain can't be on the ticket. He's an archconservative Republican who parades as a moderate.

Secondly, I think that if a Republican does end up in the cabinet, it will be Ex-Rep. Connie Morella. She's a liberal Republican and no Democrats would be upset by her nomination.

And lastly, McCain WOULD be replaced by a Democrat if he were in the cabinet. I can't remember a governor appointing someone of the opposite party. Napolitano would probably appoint someone like For. Sen. Dennis DeConcini, someone only interested in filling out the two years before the next election, but she would appoint a Democrat.
